| 9 2024 CCNZ Awards: Fulton Hogan & McConnell Dowell JV: SH25A The 124m bridge is constructed from three spans which are supported by reinforced concrete pier cross-heads that sit upon reinforced concrete columns. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT The 124m bridge is constructed from three spans, (38m, 48m, 38m) from the east to west abutment, which are supported by reinforced concrete pier cross-heads that sit upon reinforced concrete columns. Reinforced concrete piles were bored 20m into the ground with permanent steel casings, which then extended above ground providing the encasement for the concrete columns. There are four columns per pier, and each pier consists of a 1m1 x 3m x 1.5m-deep reinforced concrete cross-head that ties the columns together and supports the three fabricated steel I-Beam sections that span the bridge from east to west. Eastbridge, a Napier-based company specialising in steel bridging, fabricated and erected the steel I-beams and Ashley acknowledges the key role they played in expediting the project. “The plate used to make these beams was already in Eastbridge’s yard, set aside for another project. “However, we were able to utilise that steel plate for our project, and then replace it before it was required on the other project,” says Ashley. “If it had not been for that, our project timeline would have been significantly different.” 027 474 3000 | www.clconstruction.co.nz CIVIL & LANDFILL CONSTRUCTION YOUR CONSTRUCTION PARTNERS Proudly part of the SH25A Taparahi Slip Remediation team! Throughout the 157-year journey of Thames’ iconic hardware and industrial supplies store Read Bros, generations of families have enjoyed helpful service and a diverse product range that also embraces hard-to-get boutique items. “We’ve been part of Thames for so long that many of our customers feel Read Bros is just part of the town, and they have a real sense of ownership for the business,” says John Read, who with his wife Nicola, now owns and operates the business. “Our service has de initely been a key part of our success over the years, and our ability to become friends with our customers.” Read Bros was founded by John’s great-great grandfather (also John) to support the kauri timber industry, ironmongery, and the development of Thames township. Embracing the digital world and setting up an on-line store has been one of the exiting innovations introduced by John and Nicola that is gaining great traction throughout the country, with customers being able to access a diverse stock inventory that includes hard to source items. Another exciting development for Read Bros has been becoming part of the TradeZone Group, New Zealand's leading industrial supply specialists, and reaping the bene its of 33 other TradeZone stores around the country. Read Bros – leading the way “We felt TradeZone was heading in the right direction, and providing for the customers and end-users that we’re focusing on,” says John. “Becoming part of TradeZone has enabled us to expand our customer base, as well as the range of industrial supplies that we have access to, and at a price that enables us to be competitive against the big box corporate companies. Our three core customer sectors are industrial, trades and retail including DYIers, and we can now o er a much wider product range to everyone.” The service delivery from the Read Bros team was put to the test when supplying tools, consumables and fasteners to McConnell Dowell to commence work on repairs to State Highway 25A Taparahi between Kōpū and Hikuai after it su ered signi icant damage following a storm event in late January 2023. “They recognised our service was top-notch and our involvement led on from there. We were also able to source speci ic items in a very short space of time, and even deliver to site, saving the construction team valuable time away from site.” “It was a privilege being involved in such a vital project that meant so much to our community. It really cemented our drive to be the best industrial supplier for our district.” Thames INDUSTRIAL SUPPLY SPECIALISTS THAT WORK FOR YOUR BUSINESS If you have a project or business that needs reliable and competitive supply of industrial and trade products, get hold of the TradeZone Thames team today.
