Today there are 26 Smith and Sons around New Zealand, with more in Australia, and collectively they offer a wealth of experience and solid support to each other and to their clients as they work to make every project an enjoyable success for everyone involved. Lane had been fully qualified for five years and had a couple of years out on his own when Smith and Sons rang to see if they’d be interested in joining them as they sought to grow the number of franchises. Knowing how hard it would be to grow while on his own, and hearing what other franchise owners in the neighbouring areas around the Auckland region had to say, they decided to buy the Franklin Office franchise, which covers the area from Te Kauwhata in the south to Manukau in the north. Agreeing with the shared intention of all the franchisees that renovating should be something you actually enjoyed, rather than something you managed to get through, and liking the challenge of never knowing what’s coming, helped with making that decision. They were the first Smith and Sons in the area, and it quickly proved a success. Now established for 13 years, Lane and Melissa have grown the franchise they own and operate to a team of 15.
