MANUFACTURERS OF POLYETHYLENE PIPE AND FABRICATORS OF POLYETHYLENE FITTING A collaborative approach Asmuss Steel & Flow Control considers itself to be a supply partner rather than just a supplier. It’s an important distinction and indicates the truly collaborative approach the company takes that recently helped it to successfully deliver pipe, valves and ittings for the Waiāri Water Supply Scheme project to Heb Construction. Asmuss National Projects manager, Darrell Tonge, says that the sheer volume of the project coupled with working in with Heb on multiple construction sites and tight timeframes were the key challenges. This required close project management interface with Heb and other subcontractors to ensure material was manufactured to schedule and delivered to site at critical times. Over 20 km of polyethylene pipe, ranging from 450mm to 900mm and up to 90mm thick, was manufactured at Asmuss’ Hamilton facility and supplied to the greater project. Supply chain issues internationally due to the pandemic meant that Asmuss had to ensure that any important product had to be ordered months in advance. Darrell says the project is a perfect example of how a supply partner can make all the di erence. “We don’t just supply product; we are closely involved in projects and work in an on-going basis with our clients to troubleshoot, o er advice, input and ensure we perfectly understand their needs,” explains Darrell. “We are problem solvers - that's our core business. We understand our clients markets and their unique challenges. Our specialist team sources the best brands around the globe and coordinates resources across all sites to ensure they receive the optimal product combination tailored tomeet their speci ic requirements. On this project we worked collaboratively with Heb with regular meetings and reviews. All went very smoothly due to this approach and we’d like to congratulate Heb on the top quality end result that was achieved by this partnership.” He says the fact that Asmuss has worked with many of its clients’ subcontractors before is a real advantage as is it’s prior experience in completing large scale, complex projects around New Zealand. For example Asmuss recently worked on the Central Interceptor project in Auckland, which saw it deliver 1.5 kilometres of 1400mm diameter pipe. 2021 marks the 100-year anniversary for Asmuss. The company's commitment to streamline logistics and facilitate customer's access to its entire product range resulted in the Asmuss Group of Company amalgamating in early 2020. The previous four separate entities (H J Asmuss, Asmuss Plastic Systems, Asmuss Water Systems and Asmuss South Island) have now been brought together under one fresh and bold brand: Asmuss. With branches nationwide, Darrell says Asmuss is ready for the future and looks forward to working with Heb on more critical infrastructure projects. PROUDLY SUPPORTING HEB CONSTRUCTION P: 07 542 4693 | E: office@addlinetransport.co.nz Duncan says the new pipe is being laid next to the existing one, which is “pretty challenging”. “We are working next to a pipeline that is decades old and we have to cross over and under it in a few places. Strict planning, methodology and temporary work designs have all been important along with working with key stakeholders including local residents.” An important milestone was achieved in early October when HEB pulled the new pipe through the existing duct that was laid a few years ago when the motorway was redeveloped. The entire Te Maunga outfall project is due for completion in August 2022. HEB Construction has a long history of constructing land development, roading and infrastructure projects.
