| 81 Quality plumbers you can rely on Karen Phelps Reliance Plumbing owner Jimmy Bodle says clear communication with clients is paramount. CONTRACTING Reliance Plumbing The Far North is renowned for its relaxed, easy-going attitude. This is all well and good apart from when you need a job done. That’s where Kerikeri based Reliance Plumbing has sought to raise the level of professionalism and, as its name suggests, reliability in the local industry. “When customers book in we email them a confirmation with the time, date and even the name of the tradesperson that will be completing their job. We communicate clearly with our customers and we turn up when we say we will. That may sound like a simple thing but it’s amazing how often that doesn’t happen in our industry,” says Reliance Plumbing owner Jimmy Bodle. Jimmy knows the Far North well – he’s lived there since he was 10 years old. He contracted for 10 years prior to starting Reliance Plumbing in 2019. He’s a Certified and Qualified Plumber and is in charge of a small tightknit team that completes jobs from Kerikeri to Kaikohe to Coopers Beach. Jimmy says developing a true team culture has been important. In fact all his employees approached him for jobs indicating the great work atmosphere Reliance Plumbing provides where the team can often be seen hanging out after hours fishing or playing golf. Jimmy is also a big believer in giving his team opportunities to grow and learn as well as giving locals the chance to enter a great industry. He currently has several apprentices each at varying stages of completing their qualification. One young lad, Hunter, is a new school leaver and is about to commence his apprenticeship. He came and worked with the team previously and liked it so much he decided to make plumbing his career. Jimmy says the team atmosphere is a great springboard to completing quality workmanship for clients. Reliance Plumbing provides the full range of plumbing services from new systems to upgrades, repairs and maintenance and a wide range of drainage solutions including commercial and residential drain laying and excavation, drain unblocking using jetting and CCTV and installation, maintenance and repairs of wastewater treatment systems. As most houses in the Far North need their own septic tank this is another big area of business for the team. The company’s services also include gas installation for instant gas water heating, gas fire heaters (supply and installation) and gas cooking as well as all gas servicing and repairs, certification and safety inspection. Jimmy says that Reliance Plumbing has quickly become the plumber of choice for many locals as well as organisations, which provide emergency housing, such as Kāinga Ora and Te Rūnanga o Whaingaroa. Jimmy says the team loves working for such organisations and helping locals. At the moment Reliance Plumbing is completing a large plumbing, gasfitting and drainage project for Otātara Marae, which is building a new wharekai. Jimmy says the building industry is incredibly busy in the Far North with plenty of work available and a shortage of trained tradies. He aims to continue to grow Reliance Plumbing to meet the need and has ideas for additional services.
