Amidst a record number of entries, Managing Director, Robert Luijten says the awards programme offers an opportunity to measure up against a talented pool of entrants with some outstanding landscape projects throughout New Zealand. T T to page 104 “We think we do great work, but you look at others and think, wow, that’s amazing. To walk away with awards for our projects was pretty cool, and a wonderful affirmation of the work that our team does. It’s great for the whole team to be recognised and rewarded for all their hard work. When we attend the awards evenings, we always take several of our staff and whoever worked on the project goes up on stage to collect the award. It’s a great way to celebrate the success and share the win.” Receiving Gold in the Residential Project Construction over $100,000 category was ‘Flatbush Family Sanctuary’, and ‘Inner City Oasis’. “Flatbush Family Sanctuary included everything that people look for in a backyard,” says Robert. “It’s not just adding a pool and a fence. We did a complete makeover of the backyard with a feature piece of corten steel fencing that was custom made for the client, big shade umbrellas, and instant hedging. “Our design included a new in-ground pool, a large paved area, outdoor shower and spa pool with louvre roof. The Inner City Oasis project was another full makeover, removing all old gardens and pathways, making room for a new pool, fencing, decking and new gardens.” A Silver was awarded in the Commercial Project Construction over $100,000, for Kedgley Intermediate’s ‘Breakaway Oasis’, which involved transforming a bleak concrete area into an inviting outdoor space for the school’s staff and for learning outside the classroom. “We ripped up all the concrete and transformed the whole space into an oasis, with a nice wooden boardwalk connecting areas, a tiled patio, shade umbrellas, new furniture and surrounding garden, complete with artificial turf area with mounds. We put in some over-sized feature pots that come in various colours to further brighten up the spaces.”
