While Hennessy’s foundation in industrial electrical engineering go back to the ‘80s, Braden Rassell and Glen Loft have been at the helm since 2006, growing the business from a team of 10 to 55 specialists, along with the scale and complexity of projects undertaken throughout the wider Waikato region. While originally known as Hennessy Electrical Solutions, in recent times the company has rebranded simply as Hennessy to re ect the broader range of work and projects undertaken, particularly in the elds of automation and instrumentation. “We can provide our clients with a full turn key solutions from system design, electrical installation and physical works, the mechanical installation of our electrical systems, and automation. We also have the in-house capability to develop the computer programmes or design the SCADA. We can also develop the functional description from which the programmes are created. And we provide services for the installation of eld instruments, as well as their calibration and maintenance down the track.” Over the last few years Hennessy has collaborated with many clients establishing brand new manufacturing facilities in the area to develop bespoke electrical solutions. “We’ve done that with the new protein plant at the Waitoa Industrial estate,” says Braden. “Glen looks after the practical side of major projects and engaged directly with the end-user client to understand their needs and requirements. We have designed the electrical systems and switch boards, and we’re also doing the automation, and designing the SCADA systems. It’s very satisfying work and the team really enjoy it. Getting to complete these large-scale turn-key projects is a real high-light.” The Hennessy team includes project managers who run speci c projects,automation engineers, lead electricians, general tradespeople, and apprentices. “We have a very good base of apprentices to upskill the industry and assist with our own labour requirements. We have an automation team dedicated to just doing the software development for various sites. That’s de nitely a growth industry and an area that we bring people into from within our own company. We also think it helps that they come from a practical background, so they have a good understanding of industrial process.” Braden acknowledges that he and Glen have a passion for doing jobs well and correctly, but says that passion is shared by the wider team. “Every day is a eld trip to some degree. You’re always checking out new sites, learning about new processes and visiting new locations. We have a very good team who build relationships with our clients. If we work with an engineering manager who moves to a new company, that new company typically becomes a client because the engineer still wants to work with us. So, it’s that on-going trust that we have in our clients and that they have in us to deliver the solutions and end-product that they want.” Delivering tailored technical solutions
