It’s amazing that it has all come together over three years.” Having emerged from the turmoil created through Covid, Neville says it was extremely important to WNPL that as much of its significant investment as possible went to the local regional communities. “We wanted to ensure that as much of the construction, installation and fitout work possible, would be given to businesses from around the local region, and we’ve achieved that. Currently we have fifty contractors on site every day, and after Christmas that will increase to one hundred, with ninety percent of them local.” Rendertech NZ, A Kiwi company with an international reputation for building high quality rendering plants, sourced some of the processing materials and equipment from various parts of the world, while other equipment has been designed and made in New Zealand by Kawerau Engineering, Rendertech’s manufacturing partner and sister company. WNPL has worked directly with Gray Consulting Engineers to design the building around all the processing equipment. MW Builders was engaged as lead contractor and Hennessey were contracted for all electrical equipment design, supply and installation. “The plant will operate all year round, 24/6. Because the plant is highly automated, minimal staff are required to operate the plant. But all the smart equipment needs to be maintained to a very high standard and every Sunday the plant stops for maintenance and that will be conducted by our own staff with the assistance of equipment suppliers and subcontractors who worked on the plant.” As the project draws to a close, Neville says he has been impressed with the team work and collaboration involved with all contractors and says there has been overwhelming enthusiasm and positivity, especially coming out of what New Zealand and the rest of the world have been through.
