Warkworth-based civil construction company JK Construction is taking a lead role in the Rodney district’s rapid growth. The company was started by Jesse Kay who wanted to contribute to the development and improvement of infrastructure in the area, particularly focusing on earthworks. Jesse hails from two generations of civil contractors, and grew up in and around the civil construction industry. “I started the company seven years ago and since then it has grown steadily over the years, evolving both in terms of machinery and skilled staff. “We take pride in our workmanship, and a have a team of individuals who take pride in their work too.” The company specialises in earthworks piling and roading, which set it apart from others, Jesse said. “This expertise allows us to tackle diverse projects, from safety improvements to commercial constructions and land development.” Currently, there is a dedicated team of 14 employees that all bring diverse skills and expertise to projects. “Our team is the backbone of our success. We focus on quality over quantity with our staff and have a tight-knit crew, several of whom have been with us from day one. “We focus on quality, and quality starts with the guys on the ground and the machinery we use. We look after our gear and our guys, which forms the foundation of what we want to achieve and the level we set on projects.” Based out of its Warkworth yard, the company operates across the wider Rodney area, with projects on the go from Wellsford down to the North Shore, and in between. Its portfolio includes a range of successful projects, the most notable accomplishment being the new Warkworth transport hub/new park and ride and safety improvements in the Dome Valley. “Additionally, we have collaborated with builders in the commercial sector, contributing to the civil construction of prominent landmarks in Warkworth such as the new Warehouse and Noel Lemming buildings in the Kowhai Falls development.” Jesse said although every job came with its challenges, there were always solutions. One of the main ones currently being the weather. “Being an earthworks company we are extremely weather dependent to get things moving, and with the bad series of weather events over the past 12 months it has set us back.” He said this had been overcome through strategic planning, and continuous skill development for the team. The Rodney region was witnessing significant growth, particularly in land development and commercial development, he said. “Over the next few years, we anticipate continued expansion and development in this area. “JK Construction is excited to play a role in this growth, contributing our expertise to projects that will shape the future of the community. “We love being able to actively participate in the positive transformation of the Rodney region.”
