| 31 Superior Doors – leading the way Twenty years ago Superior Doors was the rst company to introduce polystyrene core doors, now the favoured choice for many homebuilders throughout New Zealand. Ten years ago it introduced steel reinforced doors, the preferred choice for New Zealand’s leading cavity slider suppliers. With this pedigree for innovation it is no surprise that Superior Doors has introduced a range of independantly accredited high r-value doors to the New Zealand market that signi cantly exceed the recently increased insulation requirements under clause H1 of the New Zealand Building Code. This spirit of quality and innovation is driven by the business’ proud heritage as a family business. General Manager, Aaron Davidson at Papakura-based Superior Doors, understands this. He says it is the very thing that underpins the businesses success, its ability to discern the market and adapt and especially its way of presenting to customers, to its loyal team and to the community it belongs to. “We established 30+ years ago carrying good old family values into how we operate and we haven’t budged from that. Today, my Mum and Dad have stepped back from the day to day, leaving the management to myself and my three siblings, who are all here.” The company is New Zealand’s leading door manufacturer and stands proudly on its core visions and values. What is great about the way Superior Doors operates is that everyone, from director through to assembly line employee, is encouraged to shine and contribute. This creates an energy and enthusiasm which is palpable and which, in turn, spills out into the way the business supports a number of wonderful initiatives. “We’ve been heavily investing in new sta and are looking forward to our second intake of graduates, who should arrive shortly. We are also really excited to have kicked o an intern programme for students in their nal year of study. Our graduates have been amazing: smart, fun, hardworking, and full of (mostly) great ideas. It’s pretty exciting for us to be at this place,” Aaron says. Engagement with the community is another priority. Superior Doors has a close relationship with its local marae, just down the road, and each year Superior Doors takes in a cohort of school leavers from the local high school. The same school Aaron attended, along with his siblings, many of his extended family, and most sta at the business. The company also works with Corrections to o er places for their clients for which the company received two awards earlier this year. “I strongly believe in second chances.” Says Aaron.
