Driven by customer demand for more nationwide support, a series of recent strategic acquisitions and new developments have enabled Palmerston North based Booth’s Logistics to broaden its service offering and increase its capacity. Since 2019, acquisitions have included the purchase of Hastings based Tomoana Warehousing, Te Awamutu based Couplands Transport, Taupo based Great Lake Transport, Whangarei based The Produce Connection, and South Island based Summerland Express Freight. The more extensive regional network sets Booth’s Logistics enroute to achieving its vision of becoming a significant provider of nationwide logistics and warehousing. Formerly known as Booth’s Transport, over the company’s 40-year journey, what started as a single truck delivering the family spuds to market, Booth’s business has grown to twenty-one locations throughout New Zealand including Palmerston North, Whangarei, Auckland, Te Awamutu, Tauranga, Taupo, Rotorua, Gisborne, Hastings, Masterton and Wellington, and 10 South Island locations from Nelson to Invercargill. Late last year, a business decision was made to rebrand as Booth’s Logistics, which Co-Founder and Executive Director Trevor Booth says was based on the need to have a national brand across all the company’s transport and warehousing businesses, given there had been a number of quite significant acquisitions. “It was also to more accurately reflect the types of services that we were now able to offer to our customers and the market. We had moved out of just providing transport services, to include warehousing, LCL and 3PL operations. “Our core customer sectors are FMCG and construction materials, but delivery into retail is also becoming a large thing for us and crosses many different sectors.” Trevor acknowledges that Booth’s Logistics’ goal has been to build a nationwide network, connecting New Zealand region by region, from top to bottom. “Customers are often looking for simplified freight and logistics services through one provider capable of delivering an end-to-end solution throughout the country. In early 2022 we acquired The Produce Connection in Whangarei, which is a specialist produce T T to page 46 logistics business in Northland. Earlier this year we opened another depot in Whangarei to run alongside that business but to be more focused on freight. Those two operations will complement each other, while also providing efficiencies and new opportunities.” Booth’s Logistics acquisition of Auckland’s Couplands Transport in 2021 also provided it with warehousing in Auckland. Trevor says as a result of continued growth and customer demand in the region over the last year, additional warehousing capacity was added to meet that that demand, and future proof it against continued market growth.
