Back in Hastings in the 1960s, brothers Kevin and Colin Atkins were fibreglass manufacturers building caravans when they saw some potential for building fibreglass swimming pools as well. They installed their first pool at Apple Motor Inn in 1970, with Keith in charge of swimming pool construction under the Mayfair Pools brand, while Colin still focused on caravan and boat manufacturing. By 1973, Mayfair Pools was flourishing and demand from all across New Zealand was soaring. Mayfair Pools developed an innovative licensing system which allowed the business to rapidly expand to cover the whole country. Richard and Lisa bought Mayfair Pools Auckland North Shore in 1996. Always known as one of the higher volume dealerships, Mayfair Pools Auckland North Shore is one of three Auckland dealerships and covers a large and affluent area, with a lot of potential for backyard pools. Richard says as the years go by, Auckland North Shore sites get smaller and access gets tighter.
