BDC Homes took out a Gold Award and a Top 100 at the 2024 Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition for this home recently completed in Morrinsville. The perfect combination of traditional charm and modern essentials, the home features generous hallways with beautiful halfheight tongue-and-groove panelling and dado rails, stained-glass windows, curved walls, and a wrap-around verandah with balusters. Meanwhile low-e glazing and insulation reduces the amount of energy required to heat or cool this home, which has also been pre-wired for solar panels. Air- conditioning, alarm, and audio systems are all controlled via phone applications, and three 25,000L tanks are used for the septic system and collecting rainwater. House of the Year called it a house with its heart in the past, but its smarts in 2024. Sleek and contemporary, Bryce says his home is all about the lines. “We had a budget and we tried to build something as nice and simple as we could, then up-spec everything for quite dramatic effect. We’ve included a really nice kitchen and fully tiled bathrooms, 2.7m ceilings, recessed ceilings in the main bedroom and second lounge, as well as some of the detailing that really makes our interior pop.” As well as all of its awards, BDC Homes was named in the top three of the Waikato region for craftsmanship at the competition for this home. Bryce wants to show that BDC Homes can build both modern and traditional new homes, and can achieve spectacular results with both simple and complex designs.
