Seaside Homes T T Kelly Deeks “You’ve got to love timber; you’ve got to love Lockwood, its beauty, its engineering, and its strength. That’s what draws people into Lockwood. This is a premium product.” BUILDING Despite strong competition amongst builders in Tauranga, Seaside Homes, owner of the Lockwood Homes Tauranga agent, has a niche and proven product and continues to deliver premium, warm, dry, and healthy homes to a specific section of the market. “This is a really good time to build,” says the owner of Seaside Homes, Søren Antonsen. “There are lots of plumbers, lots of electricians, and lots of builders available. Residential construction has dropped around here, and there are 38 group-housing companies in town. That’s a lot for a city of less than 200,000 people. But Lockwood is keeping us going.” He says Lockwood caters to a very small percentage of the market. “You’ve got to love timber; you’ve got to love Lockwood, its beauty, its engineering, and its strength. That’s what draws people into Lockwood. This is a premium product.” Key to its success over nearly seven decades is Lockwood’s exclusive and superior building system, which locks rather than nails sustainably sourced timber components together to create superbly crafted homes, strong enough to withstand earthquakes and cyclones, and flexible enough to handle wide extremes in temperature. Lockwood’s external insulated wall system has an R-Value of 2.1 and a pressure-equalising jointing system that transfers moisture to the exterior of the house to provide a warm, dry, healthy, and high-performance living environment. “Panels come from the factory and we assemble the house on site,” Søren says. “By the time we get to the roof, the exterior and interior walls are finished. We don’t have to go back to insulate, cavity batten, or Gib, so our labour is a lot less. “We then take more time to finish the home. “We can’t hide any cut or any joins, we can’t paint or paper over them, so we apply a very high level of craftsmanship to our finishing.” Lockwood Homes Tauranga has a great team of skilled craftsmen, all employed, many long-term, and continuing to build on their skills to the benefit of their clients. “It’s all about the quality, and I project manage all of the houses myself,” Søren says. “I’m not interested in being the one who sells the most Lockwoods, I want to be the best Lockwood builder in New Zealand.” Lockwood Homes Tauranga has featured several times in the Lockwood Group’s internal awards, twice winning Lockwood Contractor of the Year as well as bringing home the Customer Satisfaction Award a number of times. “Happy clients are what drives me,” Søren says. “I know we’ve got a great product, so I can focus on fantastic service and making sure we build the best house every time.” This year’s construction downturn provided an opportunity for the Lockwood Homes Tauranga team to update its show home offering with the brand-new Karewa show home on Bell Road in Papamoa. Presenting a thoughtful design that makes a smaller home feel spacious and luxurious, the Karewa show home has a sleek and modern style and custom-made features, like a painted headboard in the main bedroom and bespoke rustic barn doors, demonstrating the potential for clients to personalise design elements in their own home.
