VSM also celebrated a birthday this year: 160 years of abrasives made in Germany. We have been developing and producing coated abrasives for machiningmetal surfaces since 1864. On 28 May 1864, Siegmund Oppenheim and Siegmund Seeligmann founded the company, not quite in a garage, but in a barn on the outskirts of Hanover. Starting with the manual and small-scale manufacture of glass and lint paper, VSMmoved on to produce emery paper and then synthetically manufactured abrasives. We are probably best known for our ceramic grain abrasives CERAMICS and CERAMICS Plus, which we have been producing in-house in Germany since 2004. Today, we are active in 70 countries worldwide, with our subsidiaries and sales partners, and employ 850 people. Trade, industry and commerce customers from around the world rely on VSM – for our high-performance abrasives, innovative products such as ACTIROX and XELERION, and our expertise, from the original product idea through to development and production.
