| 61 T T Hugh de Lacy Trucking company in forward gear Commercial Diesel offers the full range of trucking services, including full engine, gearbox and differential repairs and rebuilds, and insurance work TRANSPORT Commercial Diesel Already a commanding presence in the Northland trucking scene, Warkworth-based Commercial Diesel is on the expansion path with a purpose-built new service facility under construction in Waipapa and due to come on-stream in mid-2025. Commercial Diesel was founded 21 years ago by director Brent Butler, who shares ownership with operations manager, Blair Drinkwater. With existing branches in Whangarei and Kerikeri, the latter to be folded into the new premises in Waipapa, Commercial Diesel has become the go-to heavy trucking service company from day one, and has since expanded to become COF certified in Whangarei seven years ago – the first company in Northland to do so – and in Kerikeri and Warkworth two years ago. The new Waipapa facility will be similar to the existing Whangarei and Warkworth workshops, with four full and two half-length service bays. The Kerikeri facility is “something of a mish-mash at the moment,” Blair says, which is why the Waipapa workshop is being built. From vehicle maintenance to on-site COF inspections, Commercial Diesel offers the full range of trucking services, including full engine, gearbox and differential repairs and rebuilds, and insurance work. The Warkworth branch also offers wheel alignment, and all three branches offer a comprehensive parts service from filters, bearings and seals to exhaust products, consumables and accessories, HCB batteries and lights and electrical fittings. The company also operates a two-days-a-week service in Kaitaia. Commercial Diesel holds agencies for a number of trucking brands, including Kenworth, DAF, Hino, Iveco and Hyundai, and for Cummins diesels. The workforce numbers around 70 in total with 30 in Whangarei, 18 in Warkworth and the remainder in Kerikeri. The clientele includes some of the biggest companies in the country, with Northland Waste alone running no fewer than 400 trucks. Adding to the waste-management aspect of Commercial Diesel’s clientele, it services another nationwide company in Waste Management, while a further significant client is Warkworth-based Rhodes for Roads, which a year ago completed the new Puhoi to Warkworth motorway for Transport NZ. On the rural side, North Rural Haulage is a regular client, with its fleet of trucks bulk-tipping fertiliser and urea for Northland’s farms. A year ago, Commercial Diesel bought an existing auto-electrical company and folded its operations into the Kerikeri branch, having earlier bought a similar enterprise for its Whangarei operation. “With our four main service lanes at each branch fully booked for the rest of the year, we’re looking for opportunities to expand further, with the aim of building up an even more comprehensive range of services,” Blair says. “We don’t want to get super-big, but we’ve certainly still got room to grow. We’ve got a long-standing commitment to offering the best and latest range of diagnostic equipment for all our brands, and our highly experienced and qualified workforce is dedicated to repairing vehicles quickly and accurately. “Our parts departments carry a comprehensive range of genuine and aftermarket parts for all makes and models.” Proud to be supporting Commercial Diesel Ltd 09 470 0850 www.ten4.co.nz Proudly supporting Commercial Diesel Ltd transport engineering for repairs, maintenance, design & manufacturing.
