The 18-month build involved significant earthworks, requiring three months to prepare the site and navigate adverse weather conditions that delayed concrete pouring, but other than that the project was a smooth process, with much credit due to Paul Clarke’s architectural prowess, says Jono. “Having a great architect like Paul on the project definitely makes it so much smoother because there are no buildability issues,” he says. Another distinctive Studio 2 Architects design is a remarkable project currently under construction at Whangarei Heads. “It’s a dream property offering stunning sea views,” says Jono. “Spanning three levels, the three-bedroom home includes a guest area on the ground floor, a main living space with kitchen, laundry, library and garage on the second floor and a master suite on the top level. A dramatic spiral staircase connects all floors, while the exterior combines charred Acoya wood and curved Abodo clad wall for a timeless appeal. Cedar timber ceilings throughout, and an in-situ concrete fireplace highlight the home’s attention to detail.
