This project is a showcase of what our team is capable of.” A Waikato-based kitchen and joinery company is making a serious statement in the world of high-end commercial interiors with the completion of a full interior joinery package for a large-scale office fit-out – a standout entry in this year’s Master Joiner Excellence Awards. A stunningly sleek commercial fit-out, it is a major work by Montage Kitchens & Joinery, a family-owned company with a 40-year history across the Waikato trades. Led by brothers Jared and Michael Monk, the second generation of the family-owned business, Montage has evolved from a small joinery shop started in the early 1980s by their late father Ken Monk, into the recently rebranded Montage Group. The same team is still offering kitchens and joinery, interior doors, stairs, wardrobes, custom joinery and full commercial fit-outs. The Hamilton project represents one of Montage’s most technically demanding interiors to date, and was commissioned as a premium, architecturally designed office space, with an array of custom-built elements. These include slatted timber screens, kitchenette stations, a full staffroom kitchen, bathroom vanities, curved bench seating, integrated lockers, and timber veneer doors. Designed for both performance and style, the fit-out is as functional as it is refined. It required meticulous planning and CAD design precision, plus close collaboration with architects and the main building contractor, Fosters Construction. “It was a massive job, easily a year and a half from initial drawings to installation,” says Jared Monk, Montage Group’s managing director. “We’re proud of the level of finish, from the Australian oak timberwork to the custom cabinetry. From the CAD modelling to the final installation, Montage Kitchens & Joinery handled it end to end, ensuring that every detail was perfect, resulting in an award-worthy statement fit-out. Over the past few years, Montage Group has built a reputation for top-tier commercial joinery through these project types, including Union Square Café, part of the award-winning Rabobank tower development in central Hamilton. Built by Foster Construction, the café space features a stunning, seven-metre curved counter made of scalloped American ash with solid brass detailing. Operating from its recently expanded, purpose-built factory and showroom on Ellis Street in Frankton, Montage Group employs nearly 30 staff across design, manufacture and installation. “We’ve doubled our building size,” says Michael. “A bit over a year ago we knocked down an old building next to us and built a new purpose-built factory and brand-new showroom.” With the addition of Montage Doors, Montage Stairs, and Montage Wardrobes, the Montage Group now provides a full-service interior solution, with a commitment to New Zealand manufacturing and competitive pricing for commercial and residential projects of any scale.
