Four decades later, Lovich Floors has earned a reputation as one of Auckland’s premier flooring specialists, and those dinner party conversations are still happening. Centrally based in Mount Eden, Lovich Floors today employs more than 30 staff, including contract managers, quantity surveyors, warehouse and compliance personnel, and a loyal team of installers. The company also engages trusted contract installers when demand is high, enabling it to keep pace with the diverse range of commercial and residential flooring projects it delivers across the Auckland region. Managing director Mark Lovich is widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s most experienced flooring professionals, with more than 40 years of technical and project management expertise. His journey began on the tools, but a passion for client service and a vision for running projects better and fairer led him to go out on his own, encouraged by long-time clients, who insisted he start his own business. That leap of faith, taken not long before the 1987 share market crash, could have been a shaky start. But strong relationships with suppliers and customers ensured the business had the support it needed to grow through tough times, and to build the foundations of a trusted brand that has stood the test of time. “We’ve always believed in doing the right thing by the customer,” Mark says. “That means recommending what works best for their space, not just what’s most profitable for us. People remember that kind of honesty, and they come back for it.” Pam Lovich, co-founder and financial controller, has been just as instrumental in shaping the business. She leads the financial, HR and administrative operations, bringing the discipline and forward planning that has supported steady and sustainable growth. Although the business is primarily commercially focused, residential work remains a key part of Lovich Floors’ portfolio, particularly for returning clients and those all-important “dinner party referrals”. Projects range from new and retrofit office spaces, apartment buildings and retail stores, to hospitals, retirement villages, schools, and homes. “It would be fair to say we’ve laid flooring in most buildings in the Auckland CBD,” says Mark. “Either as individual fit-outs or entire developments.” Lovich Floors partners with all major flooring wholesalers, and prides itself on selecting only the best products to ensure durability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.
