T T Virginia Wright “Supporting clients’ sustainability initiatives, we’re refurbishing a lot of upholstered products, which extends their life and reduces what’s going to landfill.” Founded by the Bourneville family 63 years ago, the Bourneville Furniture Group (BFG) is now owned by co-directors, Clifton and Kim Webb, who had already worked in the business for 23 of those years when they purchased it from Mark Bourneville in 2016. And by then, Clifton was already running the company. “We had a good understanding of the business, its customers, and how the industry worked, so we knew what was required for it to thrive,” he says. “It’s still a 100% New Zealand-owned family business with strong values. We have strong client retention and longstanding relationships, and we continue to produce high-quality New Zealand-made furniture that is durable, refined, and designed to perform for years in demanding workplace environments,” Since 2016, Clifton and Kim have grown BFG into the workplace solutions and contract manufacturer it is today, with customers across the country, including government, tertiary, healthcare, accommodation, and corporate clients. Sustainability-focused, the company holds internationally recognised accreditations in Environmental Management Systems, Occupational Health & Safety, and Quality Management, with environmental impact always front of mind. BFG sources as much New Zealand raw material, componentry, and labour as practically possible, and refurbishment and ‘end of life’ solutions have become ongoing areas of growth, Clifton says. “Supporting clients’ sustainability initiatives, we’re refurbishing a lot of upholstered products, which extends their life and reduces what’s going to landfill. We also take products back to dismantle and recycle as much of the fabric, wood, steel, and other materials as we can.” BFG’s workplace solutions range from office desks and tables to collaborative spaces – all designed and manufactured in a range of finishes using locally sourced materials and resources. Recently, BFG secured the New Zealand agency for the premium Polish-made acoustic meeting pods known as ‘Hush’. Recognising a growing demand for quiet meeting spaces, BFG imports the pods, delivers them, and installs them on-site for customers. With some of the best acoustic ratings on the market, and full compliance with New Zealand safety requirements, the pods are available in a range of configurations, from individual phone booths through to eight-person meeting pods. A key attraction is their flexibility. Rather than being fixed within a space, they can easily be repositioned as workplace needs change. They also come furnished with seating, automatic lighting, and adjustable airflow. “Uptake has been really strong. It’s a growing market across the board in corporate and government offices, as well as learning environments,” says Clifton. BFG not only retains clients over many years, but also staff, who are valued for their knowledge and experience. The company offers an end-to-end service, beginning with its sales and customer service team, consulting with clients on-site throughout the country. Drawings, floor plans, and individual products are discussed and finalised with clients before accurate and detailed specifications are electronically delivered to the factory floor. “We’ve developed and grown a really knowledgeable core team, including one staff member who celebrated their 30th anniversary with us last year,” says Clifton. “At the other end, we have our own delivery and installation team, which gives us clear and direct communication with customers without third parties involved. We can manage schedule changes and client requirements within our own team, which makes the process much easier all round.” With Clifton as BFG’s director and Kim as its strategic workplace solutions manager, alongside their dedicated and experienced team, Bourneville Furniture Group provides considered, high-quality solutions tailored for organisations seeking well-conceived and meticulously detailed workplace solutions wherever they are in the country.
