With truck bays, service pits and brake roller machines, column lifts and the latest technology for diagnostics and repair. There will be an automated commercial truck-and-chassis wash machine on site for heavy trucks to be cleaned. “We’ll have a great big Karcher Roll-Over Truck Wash which is like a giant car wash with all the brushes and with a high-pressure chassis wash incorporated into it,” explains Allan. “Perfect for the weekly clean of trucks and also keeping the chassis clean for COF inspection” Their car and light commercial vehicle customers remain a good half of their business, many of them dating back 26 years to when Auto Technics began, and they too will benefit from the latest diagnostic equipment coming with the new workshops with both training and up-to-date equipment featuring large. “We have a lot of loyal customers with all makes and models of trucks and cars,” says Allan. “We’re updating weekly to keep up to speed with the latest software and we cater for all vehicles including having specific diagnostic equipment for European vehicles.” Not only do they have on-site technicians trained in EV and hybrid vehicles, one of their courtesy vehicles is a Nissan Leaf EV. It reflects their awareness of sustainability, and that Auto Technics is paying the concept more than just lip service, having recently taken up Auto Super Shoppes offer to join their nationwide recycling scheme. “We can trace three areas of our waste from the workshop to the products it is manufactured into in New Zealand, so it’s not ending up in landfill.” says Allan. “Our waste oil is refined for use in heating commercial greenhouses, all the plastics are shredded and cleaned and turned into plastic fence posts, and our oil filters go away to be shredded and refined back to steel with any oil still present being refined along with the rest of the waste oil.” With a bright new workshop and huge benefits to customers, staff and the environment, Allan & Penny are excited about this new stage of their business. “There’s one thing Allan is looking forward to more than anything else, “the extra space will make all the difference,” he says.
