It’s great to come full circle with a project like this and assist with a signi icant project for the Far North and give back.” Providing solutions all the way “We are the only company locally with the capacity to undertake this project so it means we can keep the spend local and this has many flow on benefits for the community,” says FNR director Manu Burkhardt-Macrae. “It is good for our staff to be part of projects that they, their families and future generations will use and also be proud of.” Covid-19 obviously added challenges to the project in terms of inflation and supply chain issues but Mark says by working together this has been mitigated as much as possible. “Good planning and foresight has assisted. For example we locked in the steel and structures contract early so we weren’t as exposed to price fluctuations. It’s about trying to stay ahead of the game,” says Mark. The structure of the building incorporates a fabric system that is being constructed off site and erected once foundations are in place assisting build timelines. The Te Hiku Sports Hub is anticipated to be completed for opening in February 2023. Mark says it will bring significant benefits for the whole region. “This facility will mean a lot of things to a lot of people because it encompasses a broad range of uses. There will be great pride in Kaitaia having a facility that will be of international class. It is first and foremost for the community but it will also no doubt draw people to the area as we envisage there will be wider competitions and events held at Te Hiku Sports Hub as it will be the best facility of this kind in the Far North. “It will also make the Far North region an even more attractive place for people to live so it’s just another great thing about the Far North.”
