Fraser Cove Shopping Centre, Tauranga A family culture and strong complementary industry skills has created a solid foundation for Trident Homes Tauranga Western Bay of Plenty to operate on. The franchise was established seven years ago by brothers Wayne and Keith Minnell and their wives Glenis and Allison who were all previously part of a joint venture partnership in the local branch of a leading building supplies company. Ζt was the first Trident +omes franchise to be established in the North Ζsland. “It was a new company therefore we had the opportunity to build it into a solid, reputable company in Tauranga.” Wayne is a certified builder, having done his time in both commercial and residential construction in New Zealand. Although, at the age of 68, he could be retired, Wayne still enjoys working and looks forward to the challenges and rewards that each day holds in tandem with Keith who works as the business’ estimator as well as overseeing construction, while Glenis and Allison work in accounts and administration. The combined skills the two families contribute, along with having a dedicated architect, is a great asset to the business and its clients while embracing a welcoming family culture is central to the team’s ethos, Wayne says. “Any skills that you learn over the years always complement the business and helps you out, but certainly here, we had plenty to bring to the business, and that really has come to the fore.” Adding to the family foundation is two sonsin-law who are construction and electrical contractors. “We have a fantastic team of contractors who have been with us from day one, from completing earthworks to the finishings with window and ȵoor coverings.ȋ While Trident Homes is a relatively young company, it is going ahead in leaps and bounds and the brand is now well recognised and respected in the market, Wayne says. Nationally, Trident +omes is part of wave of change in the building industry that is seeing a strong push towards sustainability and more energy eɝcient homes. Also, from May 1, 2023, new building work in homes must meet new wall, ȵoor, and roof “We have a fantastic team of contractors who have been with us from day one, from completing earthworks to the finishings with window and ȵoor coverings.ȋ insulation performance requirements, with variations across dierent climate zones. Recognising these factors, Trident Homes has partnered with Formance which manufactures and supplies structurally insulated panels (SΖPs) which have high R (insulation) values and the ability to create and airtight building envelope. The panels comprise oriented strand board (OSB) and locally sourced expanded polystyrene ((PS). ȊProbably we are going to be seeing more construction based on SΖPs in the future, especially with the changes that the Government are bringing in around insulation, it’s certainly something that’s going to be around for the future.” ȊOur high-performance SΖPs building envelope and fresh air ventilation system creates the ultimate inside climate, providing consistent temperatures year-round, saving our customers money on power bills and reducing CO2 emissions.” Trident Homes Tauranga Western Bay of Plenty have also completed several houses for Accessible Properties and nationally is a certified Lifemark builder. Lifemark rated homes are designed to be usable and safe for people of all ages and stages and have the advantage of being future proofed as people get older. After several very busy years, Wayne is noticing some eects of the retrenching economy but is not at all fazed. “The market certainly has down-turned, there’s no doubting about that, but we’ve got plenty of work ahead of us and quite a few current builds.
