Owner Jeremy Veza says drainage is a pretty dangerous industry. “When we’re digging out trenches for drainage, it gets more dangerous once we go beyond 1.5m. So we’ve put a logo on the guys’ hi-vis vests with the words ‘I am safe’ and a line underneath about mid chest height, which is at or below the 1.5m mark, and now everyone knows if they can see the line, the guy is safe.” The logo on the vest provides Veza Drainage sta΍ with a visual guide to follow that gives them an easier way to comply with safety protocols than constantly measuring their trenches. “Not only the guys in the trench but the guys in the machinery as well. Everyone is keeping safe.” Veza Drainage’s safety initiative has been noticed by the public not only on work sites but also on the sta΍’s personal social media pages where they wear their modified hi-vis with pride. “People have come up and told us it’s a really good idea, and it is. It’s a simple idea but it’s great and it works.” Veza Drainage Ltd is a family owned business established in 2015 by Jeremy and his wife Lyn. Jeremy has spent 30 years in the civil construction industry and always enjoyed the drainage aspect. With all jobs completed to the highest standard and complying with all New Zealand Building Code rules and regulations, Veza Drainage quickly grew into an industry leader in drainage installation. In the past 12 months, the company has doubled in size. Veza Drainage now runs four full-time drainage crews and covers all aspects of drainage for commercial and residential developments, completing numerous high level contracts around Auckland and the Waikato with companies like Hick Bros, Dempsey and Wood, March Cato, Lite Civil, and Mackenzie Civil. “We’re mostly doing big subdivisions and we’ve got good relationships with some of the bigger development companies. We’ve worked with them and they haven’t let us go.” Veza Drainage has always been proudly committed to the health and safety of its employees, and of those who work with and around them. With and health and safety department committed to continuous improvement, upskilling, and recognition, safety is a priority and compliance with safety protocols allows for smooth operations on all projects Veza Drainage is involved in. “Our team is the most important and appreciated part of our business,” Jeremy says. ȊOur qualified drainlayers are highly skilled and experienced at at laying sewer and storm water lines, and are equipped with top quality machinery and equipment to complete jobs of all sizes and complexities.” Veza Drainage is always on the hunt for committed, hard working, and loyal sta΍, and these are pretty thin on the ground at the moment. As a workplace that is dedicated to growth, upskilling, safety, and recognition, Veza Drainage is looking for people who can be trained as apprentices, as the long serving sta΍ get moved up the ranks. ȊAs long as they’ve got their driver licence so they can get themselves to work and drive some of the vehicles we have, we can train them to be drainlayers, machine operators, or labourers. There is plenty of work out there to do.”
