A-Line Construction has a breadth and depth of experience in completing projects of varying scale and complexity and have completed previous projects at the base hospital in Whangarei for Te Whatu Ora. Project manager Stuart Kain says the Northern District Health Board facility will be a significant asset for the Bay of Ζslands community. It provides a much-needed capacity increase in the level of care and modernisation of the facilities to suitably service the Bay of Islands communities. It includes comprehensive medical, maternity, and paediatric services, as well as a substantial community health service to the people in the Bay of Islands and the mid-north. Stage one provided a new accident and medical department, x-ray and ground level consultation facilities, and a 20 bed, top level, in-patient ward. The single-story stage two building provides a new outpatients and primary health care ground level facility that doctors will practice from as well as community health, outpatient services, renal, oncology and haematology units and shared support spaces as well as a new main entrance. A-Line Construction is extremely well resourced, with a sta΍ in excess of 0 of which 15 to 20 have been working on the hospital redevelopment, plus numerous sub-trades. The total project is valued at $21 million with stage two costing $12 million. Aesthetically, its exterior design draws on wharenui forms with a themed colour palette, co-ordinated with a collection of large-scale photographic art reȵecting aspects of life in the mid-north, creating a warm and welcoming environment of connection. A-Line Construction’s expertise in the healthcare and other sectors covers more than 20 years of construction excellence. ȊWe o΍er complete medical construction and design services with the aim of improving lives and businesses. Building various types of facilities throughout Auckland and the Northland region, we have a wealth of experience in building dental facilities, operating theatres and other facilities,” Stuart says. The level of expertise required to plan manage and successfully execute these types of projects is considerable, Stuart says. “Having past experience on hospital projects, we understand what the requirements are and the level of finish that’s required. “The biggest thing is the coordination of the di΍erent trades with a hospital you’ve got all the service trades that there are in construction, there’s nothing more complicated than a hospital.” Many of the subcontractors working for A-Line Construction on the Bay of Ζslands +ospital project are already preferred contractors who are very familiar with the type of work and the coordination required which is not only extremely beneficial but provides an assurance of quality and successful completion of the work they specialise in Stuart says. A-Line Construction has two arms to its business. One undertakes conventional construction and the other, A-Space, undertakes modular construction. A-Space units have been developed as a high-quality, ȵexible modular building that can be used as a temporary or permanent space. These portable buildings have a unique design that enables ȵexible spaces for working and learning environments and can be used for educational and medical facilities and for commercial purposes. They are transportable and relocatable and have been designed specifically to meet the stringent durability and weather-tightness requirements of the Ministry of Education. A-Space buildings can be easily modified and used in a range of ways, configurations and sizes and are joined together using A-Line Construction’s unique bracing and beam system.
