With 35 units planned to provide aordable housing for whānau, this is the largest Māori social housing proMect in Te Tai Tokerau. “We’re doing the roading, earthworks, house sites, retaining walls and all other civil work required to prepare the way for housing construction,” says Justin Webster, who founded Solid Civil Solutions Ltd in 2003. A born and bred Northlander, Justin lived in England for a few years before coming home to set up Solid Civil. As a local contractor, based out of the nearby Northland settlement of Pakaraka, Justin says it is very rewarding to be contributing to a project that will make such a big dierence for local whānau. “I drive past this area every day and am really looking forward to seeing these houses going up. A lot of people are saying how great it is to have something positive happening in town. When you see what’s going to be built – including a new community centre – it really is amazing and we’re so stoked to be part of it. ȊΖ take my hat o to Ngāti +ine +ealth Trust and Scope for helping us get across the line and showing their commitment to a local contractor. Ζ think it’s beneficial to go with local providers because it saves time and money and ultimately helps supports the local community too.” Solid Civil Solutions has around half a dozen people on the ground for this project, along with two trucks, a dumper, four or five diggers, rollers, compacters and other specialist machinery and equipment. Justin credits his wife Roze as playing a key role in the ongoing success of Solid Civil Solutions. ȊShe’s had a huge inȵuence in getting the business up to a stage where we can run procurements smoothly. I ran it on my own for years and it was such a struggle - having her support has made all the dierence.ȋ The couple is also busy on the home front, with their son Reggie, nearly 3, keeping them on their toes. Ζn the business, they have five sta, plus a couple of regular subcontractors. Solid Civil Solutions’ track record includes civil services for smaller subdivisions (roading, asphalt and concrete), along with a lot of work for utilities, power and telecommunication companies in Northland. Their focus on reliable quality service has built a loyal client following. Solid Civil Solutions’ base of operations in Pakaraka is ideally situated, with easy access to Kerikeri, Whangārei and the wider region. Solid Civil Solutions has an up-to-date ȵeet of machinery, equipped for civil Mobs both large and small, from trenching through to installation of large infrastructure such as power poles. Giving ‘the grunt’ when needed is the heavyweight of the ȵeet, a 0-tonne +itachi. SOLID CIVIL SOLUTIONS PREPARES THE GROUND FOR KEY HOUSING PROJECT
