Whether the project is ambitious or modest, Mason Street Architectural Drafting dedicates its finest efforts. With a profound grasp of their craft and an intricate understanding of New Zealand’s building regulations, Mason Street Architectural Drafting boasts an impressive portfolio. Among their notable works is the 2021 design, Te Maika—a captivating, elevated residence with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and scenic harbour vistas in Ngunguru on the East Coast. Te Maika, spanning 198 sq. metres, features a spacious interior and a sleek elongated design nestled atop a hillside. Constructed by Bertie Construction, the residence showcases cedar ceilings, Abodo Vulcan vertical shiplap weatherboards, and trapezoidal Coloursteel roofing. With a south facing orientation, to take full advantage of the view, the build required a lot of glass frontage. “It would also cop a southwest wind at times, so we created outdoor living spaces on both sides of the house, so you could shelter from the wind but still see the view.” Another noteworthy creation from Mason Street is Kainga ki Ngararatunua – a splendid four-bedroom country home with an office and two bathrooms. The 278sqm retreat has three wings with the central wing featuring a stunning glass façade, spacious living with fireplace and lofty vaulted ceiling. Crafted by Bryce Thorne Builders and with Roum Studio’s interior design, Kainga ki Ngararatunua epitomises elegance and functionality. Kyle’s journey to establishing his own studio commenced in 2004 upon completing his Nat. Dip of Architecture from Northland Polytechnic. “I was drawn to the problem-solving aspect of architecture,” Kyle says. “I was no natural academic, but I always had a desire to be self-employed and run my own studio, so I would attribute my success to sheer perseverance.” Acknowledging the pivotal role of his former tutor, Bill Rodgers, in his academic journey, Kyle expresses gratitude. “Bill was awesome in setting me on this path, offering guidance and support to navigate the challenges and excel.” Today, Mason Street Architectural Drafting is renowned for its clean lines, thoughtful designs, and functionality.
