T T Redefining retirement care - page 116 Qestral’s newest village, Ashbury Heights, is progressing well with a 60 room Care Centre and the first stage of homes on track for release to the market early 2025. Located on a hilltop in the suburb of Maunu, Whangarei, the development offers stunning views over rolling hills. “At Qestral we offer a premium product and Maunu is a premium area so it’s the perfect place for us to build Ashbury Heights,” says Qestral Managing Director Simon O’Dowd. Like all Qestral villages Ashbury Heights is distinct, says Simon. It has been architecturally designed to resemble an upmarket residential subdivision. This means no cookie-cutter houses with most being stand-alone and available in a good mix of sizes and designs with two or three bedrooms options, low-pitched and high-pitched roof designs, and single or two-storey possibilities, all offering either single or double garages. “The concept is to create a complex that is open and expansionary and not intensified.” Award winning Architect Kerry Mason, a founder of +MAP Architects, is on Qestral’s board of directors, which signifies the importance Qestral places on establishing and maintaining high standards of urban design and innovative architecture, says Simon. “The concept is to create a complex that is open and expansionary and not intensified. There is a large amount of garden and green space around each home, with innovative landscaping designs and use of sculptures and other features to give each home a distinctive look,” says Simon. Independent houses also offer the ‘Butler’ service as an additional intermediate care package to support residents to remain independent in their own homes for longer. This package includes telehealth care assistance using Spritely remote healthcare technology, weekly housekeeping services and a range of nutritious and delicious meals delivered to residents’ doors. The village will also include a main building, which will offer facilities such as a bar, restaurant, café, movie theatre, swimming pool, spa and wellness centre along with a range of serviced apartments. Simon says that the serviced apartments in the main building will provide those residents with close proximity to central amenities as well as onsite health care assistance and a range of meals. A variety of service packages will be available offering different levels of support. The Care Centre, a state-of-the-art, single-storey care facility, will offer premium hospital and rest home level care. It provides specialised care in spacious care suites, available in a range of sizes, all with ensuites and private decks. Simon says it caters for residents who have been assessed as requiring either rest home or hospital care and provides the ability to easily transition residents between these levels of care. “This means generally there is no need for people to move rooms and that residents will continue to have access to staff members they are familiar with, depending on requirement,” he says. The Care Centre offers registered nurses, enrolled nurses, health care assistants and visiting professionals including a doctor/nurse practitioner, physiotherapist, podiatrist and optometrist. There are also plans for a separate boutique Dementia Centre, which offers individual care suites for residents and also include ensuites and easy outdoor access with private decks. Once completed Ashbury Heights will comprise a total of around 240 homes. The initial stages are being built by Brendan Murray Construction.
