The learning programme is based on the New Zealand National Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whariki. A mix of free play and guided activities will support children to grow as competent and confident learners. Growing fruit and veggies, children will learn about sustainability and the environment. The new centre, which has a commercial kitchen, will also have an on-site chef to create nutritious and homely meals for the children. “It’s a real home away from home. Alongside that, the bigger picture for us is that we’re supporting people in the community by enabling parents to go to work. A centre like this brings people together too; it’s a place where friendships can form and we like to connect to the wider community, for example by reaching out to nearby retirement homes.” Stephen was born in Morrinsville and says he and Catherine are proud to be opening their new centre in the town. The couple do not anticipate any difficulties finding families for Bumblebees & Buttercups. “We’re the only new childcare centre that’s been built in the Waikato in the last 13 months and this one has such a nice setting too.
