Nearly two years ago, project management company Hoskin Civil took the opportunity to purchase the business, providing both companies with an invaluable complementary set of services. “The business really appealed to us froman environmental perspective and inding opportunities tomake a di erence,” says NZEM’s General Manager Grace Henty. “With our civil background we were able to further expand NZEM’s customer base to include contractors, developers, Central Government and local councils. A large part of our role is helping clients understand the impact of environmental legislation on their projects andmanage their risks.” Based in Kerikeri, NZEMpredominantly operates in the Far North and wider Northland region. Amulti-disciplinary company, NZEMhas three primary workstreams; Ecology, Environmental Monitoring and HAIL (Hazardous Activities & Industries List) Assessments. Grace acknowledges that one of the things that sets NZEMapart fromother Northland companies is the size of its teamand breadth of their skills and experience. “We have four ecologists who provide Skills and experience a wide range of ecological services, including wetland assessments, ecological impact assessments, specialisedmanagement plans and freshwater faunamanagement. We generally work with projects from the concept stage, right through to detailed design, consenting and construction. We thenmonitor the physical works to ensure it is carried out in accordance with consent conditions. In respect to HAIL Investigations, our teamare highly experienced and help clients navigate their often unexpected contaminated land journey.” In addition to NZEM’s four ecologists, the team includes a HAIL specialist, an environmental scientist and a network of industry specialists that we can draw on to ensure every project gets the very best advice and outcome. “Two of our teammembers have worked for the business for over seventeen years,” says Grace. “The size of our team, their experience, together with themulti-disciplinary nature of NZEMhave been the cornerstones of our success. It means we can handle any project of any size and complexity, from any stage. I’ve spent fourteen years in the construction industry and that, coupled with our sister company, Hoskin Civil, means we have a unique understanding of construction projects, and the challenges they face. This unique understanding and capability, coupled with our local connections have been a huge bene it with the Mangamuka Gorge project, ensuring the project gets the support it needs, when it needs it.”
