Richard Cashmore - 2 Devonport Road DEVELOPMENT A sleek modern building is rising from the ground at 2 Devonport Road in Tauranga. The waterfront location will be impossible to beat with great views of the harbour, and easy access to recreational space, public transport and cafes, says spokesperson for the developer, Richard Cashmore. Four levels of office and retail space are available for lease presenting great opportunities for businesses wanting to be part of the seminal project for the central city, he says. The project came about when Craigs Investment Partners was looking for a new office. The site was originally owned by a long standing family client of Craigs Investment Partners and 2 Devonport Road Ltd stepped up to develop the site. Craigs Investment Partners will be the anchor tenant taking the top three floors of the seven storey building, which will be aptly named Craigs Investment Partners House. Demolition of the former Westpac Building at 2 Devonport Rd was completed in June 2022 and the site has seen extensive piling driven down to 43 metres to stabilise the land. Architect Wingate has stated on its website that 2 Devonport Road has been designed to respond to the site making reference to the water, corner streets and the surrounding built and unbuilt environment. The Wingate website states that the project has the opportunity to incorporate Tauranga Moana into the fabric of development ‘reflecting a strong sense of place in both the exterior and interior of the building’. The Building Intelligence Group is the developer’s project manager, managing all facets of the design, consent, procurement, construction, contract administration for the base build. Others in the team of professionals bringing the project to fruition include TBIG, Crowther and Company Quantity Surveyors, Beca and CBC Construction. Positioned on the corner of Devonport Road and the Strand, the site offers views to the surrounding harbour and Kaimai Ranges. Bayleys is representing the leasing of space in the building offering minimum ten year lease terms. There are opportunities for ground floor hospitality, office or retail tenants together with levels one, two and three office options. The ground floor has three tenancies available with interest sought from proven hospitality operators, in particular café, bistro, restaurant and boutique whiskey/gin bar. It could also be used for corporate offices and high-end retail. Levels one, two and three have a flexible floor plans allowing for modern co-working office environments. There is the potential to include shared tenancies on each floor. Richard says the project, along with others, will be a catalyst for the revitalisation of Tauranga CBD. “Like other centres retailers have moved to outer areas and shopping malls. So this will help revitalise the city centre and bring people back in. This building will be something quite special when it’s complete.” Completion is expected mid 2026.
