Solid Civil Solutions T T Bernadette Cooney CONTRACTING Solid Civil Solutions of Pakaraka near Kerikeri, is nearing completion of a large civil works project in Moerewa which will help alleviate the chronic shortage of affordable housing in the Bay of Islands. For 21 years, Solid Civil Solutions under the direction of its founder, Justin Webster has been providing quality civil construction contracting services to local infrastructure projects across the region. Justin is an industry veteran, with two decades of experience who established Solid Civil Solutions in 2003. They’ve been involved with a number of significant infrastructure projects, the most recent of which is the Ngati Hine Health Trusts new community housing development in Ranfurly Street, Moerewa. The largest Māori social housing project in Te Tai Tokerau, the development will provide 35 affordable housing units and a new community centre for whanau in need. Solid Civil Solutions have carried out all required civil works, including earthworks, roading, retaining walls and house sites within the development. The local contractor has been on the project for the last year and a half, with their staff on the ground using their specialist machinery and equipment to prepare the way for new home construction set to begin later this year. Solid Civil Solutions machinery fleet includes four trucks, seven diggers, rollers, compactors and dump truck plus a 20-tonne excavator and a Hiab truck. ‘’We undertook the civil works throughout the whole project, and its one of the biggest jobs we’ve had of late,” says Justin who owns Solid Civil Solutions in partnership with his wife Roze who has been pivotal in growing the company’s capabilities to secure larger procurements. “It was challenging at times mostly due to the rocky ground and compact space restraints,” says Justin, “but we got there in the end and now its prepared and ready for housing.” The social housing complex was planned and designed by Cato Bolan Consultants partnering with Ngati Hine Health Trust to develop the master plan which delivers high quality, affordable multi-unit dwellings to the Bay of Islands township.
