Jackson Builders BUILDING With the Covid pandemic prompting major life changes in people across the globe, Auckland builder Sam Jackson was no exception, and despite the uncertainty of the post-Covid market, he came out of lockdown with a brand new business and an exciting, independent future. Sam has spent many years leading teams on high end residential new builds, renovations, and alterations, developing a love of taking a client’s vision and creating it. He was ready to get more involved in the early conceptual stages of home building, wanting to see the quality of housing improve and to utilise modern building technologies. With his dedication to improving the building experience for clients and providing quality homes, he founded Jackson Builders to take clients in the right direction. “We like building for people who want to enjoy their new space,” Sam says. “We’re not building for developers or house flippers, we’re building for families or individuals who want to enjoy what we can do with their home. “That’s the most rewarding thing and that’s what we’re in it for. We take our clients through this scary process while their home or their land is being ripped apart and they are wondering how their project is ever going to be finished. Then we finish it, they’re happy, they give us good feedback, and that’s why it’s satisfying.” Jackson Builders has worked its way through labour only contracts and small renovations to new builds and major renovations. Sam likes working on both renovations and new builds, enjoying the challenges involved in any renovation as well as the opportunity to work with new building technologies and materials on new builds. “We do bespoke projects so no two builds are the same,” he says. “We like a bit of a challenge, something that keeps us thinking and pushing ourselves.” Sam currently employs a team of eight including four apprentices, and uses the same subtrades for every single project. “We’ve got really good communication with our subtrades so every job runs pretty smoothly.” One of Jackson Builders’ biggest projects was a reclad and a large addition completed while the family stayed in their home, moving from room to room as Jackson Builders spent five months adding a new bedroom with en suite on top of the existing garage, another two new bathrooms and a kitchen renovation, and polished concrete throughout the downstairs floor. “We came in very close to the four and a half months we projected, and on budget with super happy clients. We call that a success.” Jackson Builders is now looking forward to heading north to Mangawhai to start a new build project at the end of this year.
