Buchanan Construction T T Kelly Deeks BUILDING Since 2010, Rodney and North Shore building company Buchanan Construction has been built on the recommendations of many happy customers, with exceptional workmanship and clear, open communication, Tony Buchanan and his team of 17 won’t walk away until they’re satisfied they’ve achieved the vision of their clients. Tony is a seasoned qualified building practitioner with years of experience in the New Zealand construction industry. He followed his part-time builder/full-time teacher father into the industry, having spent his childhood around various DIY projects and developing a love for building and craftsmanship. Starting his apprenticeship was an eye-opener to the realities of the industry, proper site management, and building a house from the ground up, still Tony forged ahead and completed his apprenticeship early. He gained some experience with other building companies then after doing a small renovation as Buchanan Construction, a friend of the client liked what they saw and asked Tony to do their renovation as well. “That was 13 years ago and it’s carried on like that,” he says. “We care about what we’re doing and we build to a high standard. We never walk away if we’re not happy with what we’ve done. We bite the bullet and get it done right.” Buchanan Construction does it right for job satisfaction and happy clients. “When your clients are happy, they do the work for you and spread the word.” Customer recommendations happen repeatedly for Buchanan Construction and when those calls come in, the jobs are guaranteed. “They’re not asking for a price, they’re asking when we can start.” Buchanan Construction specialises in new builds, high-end renovations, and recladding and reroofing projects. A recent reclad project had been on the cards for a while when the Auckland floods last year meant it couldn’t be put off any longer, so Buchanan Construction got stuck in. A full asbestos removal process was required to safely remove the asbestos sheet cladding, then this classic home was re-clad with striking white weatherboard. “The style of this home is classic, and it wasn’t asking for anything complex or contemporary. We’ve worked with the style of the house and its neighbourhood to make sure the new cladding was cohesive with its surroundings.” Halfway through the reclad, the owners decided why not do a major renovation as well, and Buchanan Construction was happy to oblige. This included a new en-suite and walk through wardrobe, a new main bathroom, wallpapers, painting, and new floor coverings throughout. The classic 1970s style included vaulted ceilings and dark stained timber internal walls. Tony suggested painting them white, saying ‘trust me’ to his client, who did. “That was a major transformation, making the space light, bright, and stunning,” he says. “On the day we dropped the wrap and all the light came in, I got happy messages from the client several times.” Buchanan Construction loves nothing more than seeing its clients happy, and is sick of seeing Aucklanders being ripped off or receiving substandard work. “I find myself advising clients a lot against doing things that aren’t a good use of their budget. It might cost me a bit of work but it means I can sleep at night, and we get good recommendations.” Your Business, Your Industry, Your News.
