REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AHS Group Since its establishment in 2015, AHS Group has steadily evolved from handling small medical centre fit-outs to becoming a specialist in high-quality, custom medical projects. Originally focused on imaging rooms in private health clinics, the company quickly distinguished itself by steering away from mass-produced, formulaic construction, instead choosing to challenge the status quo and seek out projects that require attention to detail and exceptionally high quality. AHS Group’s growth has been shaped by a strong emphasis on quality and client collaboration. While its core market is healthcare, AHS also ventures into high-end residential builds with a dedicated second branch in Papamoa; it also has several projects with tourism developers such as Tasman Tourism under its belt, modernising campground facilities across New Zealand. One of AHS Group’s most notable recent projects is the transformation of the old Pukekohe council building into a state-of-the-art private medical facility, Franklin Day Surgery. Located centrally near the new Pukekohe train station, the site was acquired around six years ago with the vision of creating a private hospital that leveraged its prime location. AHS was engaged from the outset to lead the design phase, as well as manage demolition and major refurbishments. The age of the building posed significant challenges, but there was a shared determination among stakeholders to repurpose rather than rebuild from scratch. “Although starting fresh would have been easier, there was an underlying desire to retain and adapt the original structure,” AHS Group managing director Peter Davenport says. AHS initially undertook the base build as its first contract. Its second contract, aligning perfectly with its niche, involved fitting out the facility to meet the rigorous standards of a modern, private healthcare environment. Franklin Day Surgery will feature two operating theatres designed specifically for daystay procedures, as well as recovery rooms, day-stay beds and consulting suites. The facility also includes a dedicated apartment for visiting specialist surgeons – a unique addition aimed at enhancing comfort and convenience for medical professionals travelling to the site. “It is very attractive for specialist surgeons, who will come from all over to work here,” Peter says. “They can perform a full list of surgeries and stay on-site for rest and focus.” The level of detail involved in medical fitouts is exceptionally high, and AHS Group has developed a reputation for delivering on those standards. “A high-quality finish is paramount in a private medical centre,” Peter says. “We guide our clients the whole way through the process to a positive outcome.” With a team of 30 staff, including estimators, designers, quantity surveyors, and project managers, AHS operates primarily as a management company. AHS also employs a small, in-house crew of builders supplemented with a trusted network of contractors to ensure seamless delivery. Franklin Day Surgery, set to open in July 2025, is a testament to AHS Group’s commitment to quality, innovation and client-focused service. “It’s been great to see our clients and design team pull together to deliver this project,” Peter says. “Functionally, it’s excellent.” Your Business, Your Industry, Your News.
