ENGINEERING Allwest Engineering Allwest Engineering Ltd (AEL) has evolved into a powerhouse of expertise in ready mix concrete plant commissioning, assembly, and automation, establishing itself as a key partner for New Zealand’s concrete batching sector, and recently expanding its reach into Australia. Originally founded as Allwest Electrical, the company has been at the forefront of industrial electrical engineering for close to 40 years, the last several of which have seen a strategic pivot toward the concrete and cement sector. Today, under the leadership of Barry Cargill, Kieran Conroy, and Matt Wallis, AEL offers a range of services to the manufacturing sector nationwide, including electrical and mechanical engineering, industrial turnkey project delivery, scales calibration and servicing plus planned preventative maintenance. “AEL made a strategic decision to specialise in end-to-end services for concrete manufacturing, which allows us to refine our expertise, offer tailored solutions and build long-term relationships with clients and suppliers,” says AEL’s CEO, Kieran Conroy. About 85% of AEL’s business is for the ready mix and cement sector, with the remaining 15% serving food manufacturing. Allwest Engineering Ltd is the exclusive New Zealand distributor for Marcantonini Concrete Technology (MCT), an Italian engineering firm specialising in high-quality concrete batching plants. “We recognised a need for more competitive options within the concrete plant sector, so we set about aligning ourselves with concrete manufacturers, and now our partnership with MCT allows us to provide full commissioning and assembly services to ready mix concrete manufacturers throughout New Zealand, and now Australia since we set up in Melbourne in recent months,” says Kieran. AEL is also an authorised distributor for OZB, a Turkish manufacturer of bulk handling equipment for concrete plants, including dust collectors, silo top filter units, cement screws, recyclers and much more. “When I saw the quality of their products, I realised we could be very competitive in that market, so we’ve established AEL Distribution in New Zealand and AEL Distribution Pty Limited as a sister company for the Australian concrete sector, which we’re proud to have worked so hard to achieve.” In addition, AEL is the New Zealand distributor for Drum Blaster, an award-winning automated system that improves safety and efficiency in removing build-up within concrete truck mixer bowls. Beyond supplying and installing concrete plants, Allwest Engineering Ltd has also introduced MaintainX, an advanced preventive maintenance software, to over 20 ready mix plants in New Zealand. AEL’s ability has led to it delivering some major projects for Firth Industries, including a new concrete batching plant in Penrose, which will be the largest ready mix plant in New Zealand upon completion. The installation of Firth’s new concrete batching plant for the Auckland Airport taxiway extension was completed in 2024, with AEL responsible for the plant’s electrical and mechanical set-up and ongoing maintenance. With its continued expansion, AEL Distribution has secured a new warehouse close to its Rosebank Road premises, and is well placed as the go-to partner for ready mix and cement companies throughout New Zealand and Australia seeking innovative, cost-effective plant solutions. “We recognised a need for more competitive options within the concrete plant sector, so we set about aligning ourselves with concrete manufacturers, and now our partnership with MCT allows us to provide full commissioning and assembly services to ready mix concrete manufacturers throughout New Zealand.”
