Delivering quality concrete and pre-cast solutions and aggregates across commercial, civil, and residential projects, Stevenson Concrete now operates as a division of Fulton Hogan, and has been a major concrete supplier for the Eastern Busway project, which will connect Pakūranga to Botany, and is expected to carry 18,000 passengers daily by 2028. The busway will provide better connectivity between road and rail transport and walking routes, helping reduce overall congestion. Stevenson Concrete played a crucial role in ensuring high-quality, sustainable construction materials. They developed a brand-new mix design featuring low-carbon, low-heat, high-strength, self-compacting concrete specifically for the bridge piers. “This was an exciting challenge for us,” says Angela Purcell, sales manager at Stevenson Concrete. “Creating a new, low-carbon concrete mix for the Eastern Busway aligns with our goal of providing innovative, sustainable solutions for Auckland’s infrastructure.” Stage 1 of the Eastern Busway is nearing completion, and includes a flyover between Pakuranga Road and the Southeastern highway, five kilometres of busway between Pakuranga and Botany, five new bus stations, and 12 kilometres of safe and separated walking and cycling routes. Beyond the Eastern Busway, Stevenson Concrete also supplied pre-cast concrete solutions for Fulton Hogan’s modular speed table project for Auckland Transport in Kumeu last June. The installation of a traditional in-situ built table typically takes about two weeks to complete. This pre-cast speed table, which works like an oversized speed bump to slow traffic down, took only one overnight shift to install, minimising traffic management costs and disruption for local businesses. Stevenson Concrete operates four concrete plants across Auckland, located at Drury, East Tamaki, Penrose and Rānui – the location of its newest manufacturing facility. The company’s laboratory provides IANZ-accredited lab testing, specialising in testing fresh and hardened ready mix concrete as well as on-site sampling and trial batch mixing. The company also supplies aggregates for roading, drainage, and construction from six strategic locations. This includes basecourse and sealing chips, permeable aggregates for drainage applications, sand and pumice aggregates, concrete aggregates and landscaping products. Stevenson Concrete’s dedication to health and safety has been formally recognised with the awarding of the 2024 Concrete NZ Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Award. This award highlights the company’s ongoing efforts to create a safer work environment and reduce workplace injuries. Over the past three years, Stevenson has achieved a significant reduction in its total recordable injury frequency rate (TRIFR), dropping from 21 injuries in 2022 to just three in 2024, with none being classified as serious. “Health and safety are at the heart of everything we do,” says Angela. “Winning this award is a testament to dedication of our entire team. We are proud to set new standards in workplace safety with our Living Safely mantra.” Through innovation, sustainability, and safety, the company ensures that its century-long legacy remains stronger than ever.
