Co-director Matt Hallgren says the company is known for its precision, innovation, and commitment to quality, helping create healthier, more energy-efficient environments in both commercial and residential settings. Improve Air offers end-to-end expertise in system design, installation, and performance optimisation, from large-scale construction and retrofit projects to routine servicing and preventative maintenance. The company also provides consulting services, covering everything from home heat pump servicing to complex commercial developments, including the Auckland City Rail Link project. “Builders, developers, building owners and managers are confronted with rising construction costs and increasing expectations for sustainability, so there is an apparent demand for more innovative and responsive HVAC systems,” Matt says. “Improve Air is uniquely positioned to seize this opportunity, providing future-proof solutions that balance comfort, efficiency, and compliance.” Whether enhancing indoor air quality in response to health concerns, or designing systems that help achieve Green Star targets, the company is focused on delivering value where it matters most. The company is led by directors Matt Hallgren and James Yardley, who bring decades of industry experience from both New Zealand and overseas. Matt is highly regarded for his leadership on complex service projects, with strengths in defining project scope, coordinating resources, and overseeing delivery from planning through to completion. James is a skilled project supervisor with a track record of managing intricate mechanical installations, offering a modern approach to construction methodology in New Zealand. Although Improve Air has a nimble team of nine, including skilled service technicians and site managers, the company punches well above its weight and at its core is a culture of craftsmanship and accountability. “Every system we deliver is sealed, pressure tested, and undergoes a thorough quality control process. We take pride in doing it right the first time, with longevity and neatness always in mind,” Matt says. Among Improve Air’s recent projects is the Park Green Neighbourhood Village in Karaka, part of a 97-hectare master-planned community, where its team delivered the complete HVAC solution for the village’s early childhood centre, retail outlets, and café. “It involved split-unit heat pump systems, toilet exhausts, and fresh-air supply. We also installed CO2 monitors and sleep sensors in the childcare centre, with nine indoor units and a rooftop plant room. It wasn’t the biggest job, but it was technically complex.” In contrast, Improve Air is currently working on The Viridian, a significant 126-apartment development in Albany. “It’s a large project with its own challenges, but we’re excited by the scale and the opportunity to bring our standards to it. “We’ve been lucky and busy from day one, and we’ve now been delivering systems in New Zealand for over two years.” Improve Air is also investing in growth, recently engaging a business coach to streamline internal systems while maintaining quality. “The goal is to scale smartly without losing what makes us different.” A recent partnership now allows Improve Air to integrate smart air-quality sensors into its systems without costly building management systems. “We can independently monitor performance and make real-time adjustments to improve both ventilation and energy efficiency. “It’s a game changer for clients who want greater control over their indoor environment.”
