Founded in 2013 by managing director Paul Grubb, PG Plumbing and Gasfitting has grown from a one-man start-up into a trusted contractor with a team of 17 plumbers and six drainlayers. The company offers full plumbing, gasfitting and drainage services across Auckland, with a special focus on long-term client relationships and specialist gas work. “This isn’t about doing a quick job and moving on to the next,” Paul says. “From the start, we’ve built our business on strong relationships. We’ve retained key clients during the recession and even picked up new ones as other local competition has lost ground.” Paul says his customers are increasingly looking for reliability, accountability, and service that go beyond the bare minimum. “So that’s what we strive to deliver on every job.” PG Plumbing and Gasfitting’s portfolio includes work on high-profile developments such as Fletcher Living’s Whenuapai and Hobsonville Point subdivisions, Housing New Zealand projects in Mangere, Beach Haven and Avondale, and major contributions to Auckland’s growing residential infrastructure. “We’ve been doing up to 170 homes a year for some clients. These are large-scale, technically complex jobs, and our team delivers not just on capability, but on collaboration,” Paul says. “We’ve become known for our ability to deliver complex jobs efficiently, and also for our approach. We’re problem-solvers, who collaborate closely with site managers and developers to keep projects moving.” PG Plumbing and Gasfitting’s approach isn’t just about scale, it’s about specialisation. Paul began his career focused solely on gasfitting, and that niche remains a major strength. The company offers full-service gas installation and maintenance for both domestic and commercial customers, including LPG and natural gas appliances, radiator central heating, and fire servicing. “We compete in a space where there are fewer players, and that gives us an edge,” Paul says. “There is a lot of knowledge and experience in our team, particularly with specialist gas work. “There aren’t many who can operate at the level we do with gas. It’s a specialised field, and that’s allowed us to stand out and secure niche contracts.” PG Plumbing and Gasfitting has recently launched a 24/7 maintenance call-out service, expanding to meet demand in an area they have historically been too busy to prioritise. “It’s a win-win, especially during these tight times,” Paul says. “Our guys get extra hours, clients get peace of mind, and we’re building new relationships.” Honesty, integrity, and accountability are at the heart of PG Plumbing & Gasfitting’s philosophy. Whether it’s a minor fix or a full-scale development, the team treats every project as an opportunity to build trust. “If something goes wrong, even if it’s not our fault, we’re there to fix it. Our business is helping to achieve the desired outcome for our clients.” With the Auckland construction sector showing renewed signs of life, Paul is optimistic, but cautious. “There’s more tender activity now, which is encouraging, but it’s still highly competitive out there. We’re taking a measured approach.” PG Plumbing & Gasfitting is focused on sustainable growth, and continuing to build its reputation as a go-to provider for complex, large-scale, and specialist work.
