But it was far more widespread than initially thought, and as recently as 2022 an Asbestos Sector Review said the number of workers exposed to it is likely grossly underestimated. Most older buildings are assumed to constitute an asbestos risk, and current regulations require an asbestos management plan to be in place. It’s a critical requirement to protect staff and workers for any maintenance or renovation work conducted on the building that might disturb the substance.
