Your dream home won’t build itself! www.karmaconstruction.co.nz karma.construction.nz Bayof Plenty Tauranga-based construction company Karma Construction is setting itself apart in the industry with a strong focus on quality craftsmanship. Specialising in architectural builds and renovations, the company also offers full design-and-build services. Owner Thomas Blakeway founded the company in 2021 and has since completed a construction-related supervisor certificate, with a growing list of successful projects and happy clients to his name. The name “Karma” reflects a simple philosophy: if you do good, good will come your way. “And I think that’s shown in our projects — each one better than the last,” says Thomas. Karma Construction was recently involved in the ADNZ Award-winning build Kokako Heights near Whakatāne, designed by Arkhe Architecture. The 115sqm Kokako Heights home, located at the Matatā Conservation Estate, won the 2024 ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Award for New Homes up to 150m², and was a finalist in the Best Awards residential category. Karma Construction came into the project after some initial work had already been completed. Thomas explains that the owners were living onsite at the time. “We worked closely with them every day, building a solid relationship. The roofline and birch ply ceiling were challenging and detailed — exactly the kind of work we love. We brought it all together to a high standard, and the whole experience really confirmed the path we’re on.” The company prides itself on open, direct communication with clients. “When you work with Karma, you work directly with me from the very first conversation. I’m on site every day, making sure every detail is delivered to the highest standard. I’m just as invested in your project as you are — treating it with the same care as if it were my own home.” Karma Construction is currently working on an architectural barn-style home in Oropi, using a steel portal system to form the structure. The home is full of standout design features, adding warmth and character to the space. “We are working closely with our clients, refining ideas and making changes as we go to ensure they get exactly what they want.” A standout feature of the home is a large open-plan living area with a raking cedar ceiling, open fireplace, Heritage brick detailing, and oak flooring — all perched high on a hill with stunning views over the valley and river below. Completion is expected in September, with Karma Construction also designing and building the landscaping to complement the home.
