| 15 Ōwhata Kohanga Rakau LP The first stage of the trusts’ Ōwhata Kōhanga Rākau project, located in Ōwhata, Rotorua, is complete, with 38 affordable rentals and 28 social rentals REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Goodrick Contracting has recently completed a substantial civil works project at the Ōwhata Kōhanga Rākau development in Rotorua, showcasing the company’s ability to manage complex infrastructure projects while supporting local communities. Hamish Stewart, general manager of DDL/Goodrick Contracting, oversaw the works which spanned infrastructure, drainage, stormwater, water, telecommunications, power, roading, kerbing, retaining walls and basic landscaping to hand the lots over to the building company. He says a key consideration was flexibility and careful planning as the project presented a number of challenges, including a winter schedule and tight deadlines. “We had to change our programme and methodology to work around the winter consent requirements,” says Hamish. “In addition the infrastructure had to be coordinated with ongoing home construction and occupied properties, which required careful staging and on-site management with a tight timeframe to get roads operational.” As Goodrick Contracting can offer a wide variety of services in-house, including directional drilling, this allowed for good control over project delivery. Hamish says being a locally based Rotorua company, with both DDL/Goodrick Contracting directors being born and bred in Rotorua, this was helpful for undertaking the work. “Ninety per cent of the company’s staff are local further reinforcing the team’s connection to the region. It was one of the larger civil works projects we have undertaken and really showcased the skills of our team. We are a multi-faceted company that can deliver a comprehensive high-quality project, delivering a range of diverse services, on time and on budget.” Goodrick Contracting offers a wide spectrum of services including civil works, drainage solutions, subdivision development, stormwater and potable water systems, hydro excavation, and asphalt services. Its combined operations under DDL/Goodrick, enable the company to handle projects of varying scale across the Bay of Plenty and Central North Island. With over three decades of experience, Hamish says that DDL/Goodrick Contracting is well positioned to take on future large projects with several discussions underway with various parties. “Our commitment to in-house capabilities and local knowledge ensures we provide high-quality services that enhance the communities we serve. Ōwhata Kōhanga Rākau was a really enjoyable project to be a part of and it was a privilege to help the iwi to house its people. They have created a nice new development with a variety of housing for a range of needs and ages which will serve their people for many years to come.” hamish@ddl.nz dan@goodrick.co.nz CIVIL DRAINAGE • UNDERGROUND SERVICES • EARTHWORKS Delivering complex infrastructure with certainty. ddlgoodrick.co.nz 027 496 7366 From ground preparation through to final services installation, DDL Goodrick delivers fully integrated civil infrastructure solutions across Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, Waikato, and the Central North Island.
