Whangarei-based Specialized Blast & Coat has the right equipment and expertise to get any marine related abrasive blasting and spray painting job done. The company has invested heavily in plant including a dust extraction unit capable for use in large tanks and vessel voids. With four 450mm diameter hoses it has allowed Specialized Blast & Coat to com- plete a variety projects in con ned spaces including on the Farm Source building in Whangarei and for various Sealink projects. Specialized Blast & Coat was started by company owner Jamie Erceg in 2015. Jamie brought with him over two decades of experience as a sand blaster. Signi cant investment made back into the business has seen it grow exponentially on the basis of its solid reputation for com- pleting high quality jobs on time and to client speci cations. Based in Port Road near the Ship Repair New Zealand facility, this has seen the two companies develop a strong synergistic relationship over many years. Specialized Blast & Coat completes abra- sion and painting work on vessel exteriors, underwater systems and tanks. “For clients such as Ship Repair New Zea- land it’s about meeting their requirements and being there when they need us. Time is money to our clients so it’s important that we can complete their projects as quickly and ef ciently as possible,” says Jamie. Jamie says the skilled Specialized Blast & Coat is a big part of the reason that Specialized Blast & Coat can meet client deadlines, no matter how tight. Specialized Blast & Coat puts a lot of effort into training its team in an on-going man- ner to ensure a high level of skilled staff ready to tackle even the most challenging projects. All staff are trained in con ned space entry, have elevated work platform and working at height tickets and rst aid certi cates. Jamie is a certi ed coating inspector and holds unit standards in abrasive blasting and coatings as well as level 3 and 4 health and safety quali cations enabling him to coordinate large projects. Brother Rickie, who also works for the company, is a level 2 NACE coating inspec- tor. This enables Specialized Blast & Coat to work on a variety of projects. The fact that Specialized Blast & Coat is fully mobile is a point of difference. “We go to our clients; we don’t expect them to come to us. We work on items on site – blast and walk away.
