BUILDING House of Nautica S ince 1997, residential construction firm House of Nautica has specialised in the design and build of outstanding masonry homes, to meet the demands of its discerning clients. “Our clients want the best, and that’s exactly what we offer,” says House of Nautica director Tony Fraser. “We bring to Auckland’s residen- tial construction sector exceptional service, attention to detail, and unsurpassed quality in materials and workmanship.” He says the arrival of the leaky homes crisis in the mid 1990s, where some homes built form the late 1980s were found not to be completely weathertight, brought more and more clients to House of Nautica looking for the elite product. “We believe masonry is the best building material available. It is solid, durable, healthy, and energy saving.” House of Nautica draws on the best of mod- ern craftsmanship using a building material which has been employed around the world for centuries to create truly stunning homes. “We can create any type of home from a rustic, farmhouse inspired design to the latest in contemporary styling,” Tony says. “We combine superior craftsmanship with solid masonry construction to create homes custom-designed for each client’s lifestyle. As a boutique construction company, we can custom design and build a home to suit your exact requirements.” Versatility, structural strength, and aesthet- ics are some of the benefits of choosing to build with masonry. House of Nautica uses Firth HotBloc®, which provides all of the structural benefits of a traditional masonry block with the added advantage of built-in insulation. Building with Firth HotBloc® eliminates the need for additional insulation, providing the added design flexibility of a solid plastered fin- ish both inside and out. The 200mm concrete blocks incorporate a layer of polystyrene to protect against extremes of heat and cold, and to insulate against sound. They create a quiet internal atmosphere and a sense of being inside a building which has effectively shut out the outside. “The insulation towards the outside of these concrete blocks allows for a better thermal ambient temperature on the inside of the home. Energy is stored inside the block and is released to maintain a more constant internal temperature, without the unhealthy undu- lations and extreme heat and cold of timber construction.” Firth HotBloc® is an easy solution to Clause H1 in the Building Code, which provides for the efficient use of energy and sets physical conditions for energy performance. On an aesthetic level, Firth HotBloc® con- struction provides deep reveals around the doors and windows, akin to those of tradition- al European villas. The construction can also suit the more streamlined look of contemporary architec- ture, since architraves and scotias are not required. Tony says concrete block masonry offers long-term performance and unparalleled durability without the need for maintenance, providing superior resistance to nearly all types of deterioration caused by moisture, chemicals, corrosion, ultraviolet radiation, and mould and mildew growth. “Just look at every motel with their block walls. The difference is, we do them with an architectural flavour with our own in-house architect.” House of Nautica builds homes from 300sqm up to 1000sqm. Projects begin with clients who aspire for a masonry home from House of Nautica, which goes on to determine all of the client’s design requirements and desires. Once a design is finalised, the whole project is quoted and the client is taken on a journey through the construction process, including the services of an interior design consultant. As well as using its own hand se- lected design professionals, House of Nautica can also build from existing plans, offering as much or as little input as each client requires to create the home of their dreams. “We are a one-stop masonry design and build shop,” Tony says. “The whole project is managed by us, and all the mystery of mason- ry construction is taken away from the client with a fixed price contract.” With exemplary customer service and attention to detail, the smooth and efficient running of House of Nautica projects leaves no room for clients to be concerned.
