8 | DEVELOPMENT Love & Co First CAB off the rank at Civic Quarter Karen Phelps The CAB development is spread over 19 storeys - with one to three bedroom apartments ranging from 56sqm to 115sqm. A high quality offering with a focus on owner/occupiers has seen Love & Co.’s The CAB apartment project at Civic Quarter experience strong demand from Kiwis looking to purchase a home, says Love & Co. director John Love. “We are a local developer with a local building and design team with an emphasis on building quality homes for Kiwis. “Love & Co. is dedicated to creating iconic homes and lifestyles that enhance the sur- rounding landscape around them, as much as the lives of the residents and guests within. The aim with The CAB has been to create a real sense of community within the building,” he says. Formerly the Civic Administration Building (hence the name ‘CAB’) the development is spread over 19 storeys “It’s incredibly quite yet you can be in the heart of the action within minutes, whether that is Ponsonby, Parnell, the waterfront or on the motorway heading away for a weekend adventure. It’s a extremely rare offering for the central city,” he says. Designed by Josephine Design generous dimensions and flowing floor plans contrib- ute to a sense of luxury. Each apartment is anchored by spacious bedrooms, which have been thoughtfully positioned to enhance views and capture daylight resulting in elegant flow and timeless design. Large loggias create a stunning indoor/out- door flow – the best of both worlds, says John. The development includes the full floor Skygarden penthouse of around 600sqm, which offers a huge 90sqm courtyard at its heart with 360 degree views of the city. There are two half-floor sub penthouses of approx- imately 260sqm each. Following is a range of one to three bedroom apartments ranging from 56sqm to 115sqm. He says that there is still a limited opportunity to create a bespoke residence by joining more than one apartment but that window is fast closing. John says that Love & Co. focuses on utilis- ing local high quality services and products. He says this is a very important aspect of the value of the homes offered. “For example in one of our previous devel- opments someone broke a tile recently and wanted a replacement and we could easily source it, as we have used European Ceramics products on all of the past projects,” he says. Bedrooms come with Cavalier Bremworth sustainable wool carpets. There is oak timber flooring by local company Vienna Woods in the living spaces, and tiled bathrooms by Auckland based European Ceramics. People can choose from high quality Bosche or Miele appliances purchased locally from Heathcotes. The outer bespoke facade utilises a stacker system with curtain wall designed and built by Thermosash. This not only means the aesthetics of the building enhance Auckland’s inner city land- scape but is also practical resulting in a 2.4m wide 1.6m high opening for indoor-outdoor flow and light. The building includes a pool, gym and theatre room. John says the location is unbeatable: step outside into the precinct lifestyle with entertainment, restaurants and cafes right on the doorstep. It is a quick stroll to the new un- derground Aotea train Station, Auckland city’s largest transport hub, and a short distance to Queen Street, Ponsonby and the Viaduct. But The CAB has been a project not without its challenges to deliver. Constructed by Naylor Love, the building has historic status and extensive asbestos removal was required before building could commence. The bones of the building were good though and required minimal earthquake strengthening to bring it to code, says John. Love & Co. is owned by John and wife Jose- phine. John has a background as a Chartered Accountant and trained at KPMG where he advised to some of New Zealand’s largest list property companies before moving out of practice to the private sector. Josephine brings an eye for design, having trained at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design, and is responsible for the exterior and interior design, layouts and overall look and feel of the projects. Together they specialise in creating inner city regeneration by taking existing buildings and breathing new life into them and their surroundings. This has seen John lead the overall Civic Quarter Project as managing director and Jo- sephine bringing her considerable experience and creative flair to steer the strong design aesthetic of the development. John and Josephine have been involved, alongside Josephine’s father Mike, with design- ing and implementing some of New Zealand’s most successful and impressive boutique apartment developments. Other recently completed projects include the new build ezyVet offices at 19 Hopetoun Street, Tesla and Regus Spaces at the refur- bished 501 Karangahape Road, Hereford Residences, Hopetoun Residences and 132 Vincent Street. The past projects that John and Josephine have been involved in have been awarded numerous accolades. Hereford Residences won the 2018 Devel- opment of the Year Asia Pacific Region at the International Property Awards and Apartment of the Year as the Trends International Design Awards 2017. They have also won the New Zealand Property Council leader in residential design award, were a finalist in the adaptive and reuse award in 2013 for 132 Vincent Street and won the multi unit residential property of the year award and were again a finalist in the adaptive and reuse award in 2016 for Hopetoun Residences. John says The CAB is around 70% sold and is on track to be completed by December. It includes a two-level underground basement car park with 200 spaces. The CAB is part of a larger master-planned precinct being developed by Love & Co. on the 5125sqm site called Civic Quarter. There will be three other buildings on the site, and the development will include further mixed use buildings with a residential focus. “Civic Quarter will engage Aucklanders with iconic architectural design, immersing them in a vibrant mix of new engaging spaces, tailored to enhance residents’ lifestyle all linked to- gether by a group of laneways with immediate access with all the city has to offer.” Best at steel Contact: Nathan Valdez Email: admin@atlanticengineering.co.nz Mobile: 027 5563674 Contact Phone: 09 294 6637 Postal Address: PO Box 225 Dury 2247 www.atlanticengineering.co.nz We are proud to support Love and Co Mobile: 0274 988 743 100 Hugo Johnston Drive, Penrose Auckland PO Box 12039 Penrose Central 1642 www.leaderscaffolding.co.nz
