| 101 Precision Built “It’s really important that the people you have working with you carry the same work ethic and standards.” Passionate about the construction industry Sue Russell Jonathan says he and Mark manage the whole design and building process for clients. BUILDING It has been almost a decade since Jonathan Quigley established Waikato residential building business Precision Built Ltd and since that time, he has deliberately kept the company small, compared to many other successful building entities. In fact, until August 2020, it was just Jonathan working on the business. “I really enjoyed working directly with my clients, and carrying all the responsibilities of the build. It gave me certainty that the standard of build remained high.” When Mark Atkinson joined the company, that ethos continued. Jonathan and Mark had been close friends for over 10 years, both passionate about the construction industry and had similar values, so it made sense to welcome him into the business. So one, became two, and Jonathan says he’s happy to continue this way. “It’s really important that the people you have working with you carry the same work ethic and standards. For Mark, moving back into a smaller building company was the right decision.” Jonathan says he and Mark manage the whole design and building process for clients. “It means clients are not having to deal with more than us to see the project through. We take care of all the project management, engage the architect, liaise with sub-contractors and look after all the Council consenting processes.” Concentrating on the mid to high end lifestyle market in the Waikato and being based in Tamahere, just south of Hamilton, has also been the right decision. “We enjoy building these homes, which have a strong bespoke architectural element to them. Fortunately, we have a very good working relationship with an excellent architect which means we input strongly into the design phase, ensuring our homes are not only beautifully designed but very buildable.” Every build Precision Built takes on has been specifically tailored to the client. And by concentrating on homes built on life-style sized properties means there’s plenty of scope to build outstanding dwellings where families can enjoy all the benefits that come from living the semi-rural life. Tamahere, is experiencing large growth, given its desirability, only 10 minutes south of Hamilton city and with roading infrastructure NT Joinery is proud to be working with Precision Built 92 Bruce Berquist Drive, Te Awamutu P: 07 871 6188 office@ntjoinery.co.nz www.ntjoinery.co.nz The best heatpump solution for your home. 0508 924 528 www.waikatoheatpumps.co.nz upgrades, it’s a very popular location. “While 80% of our builds are in this area, we do take on projects in other rural life-style settings, such as Taupiri, Tauwhare and out Raglan way to name a few.” The company has evolved a solid project procurement process which enables the scheduling of work to be effectively managed. “Initially a client engages us to go through the design process and come up with a bespoke concept design to enable us to provide a fixed price contract. “Once this has happened then we fit the build into our scheduling programme. It means we can stagger our work to have several builds on the go at various stages of completion and is a very efficient way for us to build, particularly when there are challenges at times around material supply.” Asked to recall a stand-out project he’s been involved with Jonathan recalls a Hamilton Lake residence completed about a year ago. Citing the level of specification and the value the client placed on their professional opinion, Jonathan says the client’s sense of ‘taste’ was second-to-none. “It was an absolute pleasure for us to be engaged in building this home because the owner had a strong sense of direction while still welcoming our input.” Precision Built is a registered master builder and both Jonathan and Mark have real complementary strengths. While Mark’s strengths shine in scheduling jobs and managing materials, Jonathan ensures client relationships are strong and maintained throughout the build. And while Mark’s scheduling talents meant the early days of COVID had little impact on builds, Jonathan says that unfortunately the ‘nasty tail’ of the pandemic is beginning to create issues. “It’s in areas like roofing materials and Gib that we’re seeing longer waits. So scheduling scaffolding around this can be challenging at this time. “We know these issues are being experienced across the building sector and our clients understand these are difficult times.”
