Company director David Fee says that the comprehensive o ering means that clients’ project bene it from incredibly e iciencies often resulting in signi ication savings of time and money. A good example is the company’s work on the Whangārei Boys' High School project. From a general layout model showing service sizes and routes M&E CAD Design was able to o er real value by modifying and altering the original plan, culminating in a fully co-ordinated model. “Some of the bene its with regard to e iciencies, and consequential costs savings for our client were changing the equipment to the correct size,” explains David. “This ensured the correct products were being ordered, the irst time round. We also substituted in the correct ittings being used on the job and resized ductwork work in order to ensure it would it. BIMmade it possible to assess all of these intricacies before construction began. We were able to iron out any current clashes within the structure and its structural services early on so potential clashes were detected and recti ied before it was too late.” Especially with the curve balls Covid-19 has thrown at projects, any increased e iciency is hugely valuable at present, Integrated, proactive design solutions he says. For example M&E CAD Design could advise on where holes through beams should go enabling these to be prefabricated rather than completed on site. Checking loor penetrations meant concrete loors could be precast with con idence. David says another key bene it is reduced wastage, which also helps projects operate more environmentally sustainably. M&E CAD Design also provided asset management BIM so the client had a record of each asset owned in the project for accounting and insurance purposes and for maintenance scheduling. “The value our service provided, in terms of e iciency and cost savings were indisputably evident. We made ourselves available when required, to meet onsite if issues arose and have been able to assist in solving problems on the spot. Leighs Construction were fantastic to work with and it was a real team e ort to get this successful result we can all be hugely proud of.” M&E CAD Design was established 2006 by David and provides 3D BIM, draughting, coordination and building services. It caters to projects of all sizes and complexity, both within New Zealand and o shore. “Operating as an integrated, proactive unit, we engage with clients to provide maximum help at both the conceptual and construction stages of a project. Our collaborative approach works to drive projects forward.”
