Products are sourced from the Huhtamaki factories network or qualified third-party suppliers. The new upgraded Henderson facility means that almost 8000 pallets are in position ready to deliver packaging to the New Zealand market. “We have the scale, know-how and willingness to deliver to the highest quality.” From the upgraded Henderson logistics centre packaging product, from one simple carton up to full trucks or container loads, is distributed to the whole country with a small amount heading to export customers. The upgrade also includes a new modern office building to further enhance efficiencies for the benefit of customers. Carlos says that the Henderson food service facility started out selling custom printed coffee cups and lids but due to demand has now expanded into ice cream packaging, cups, plates, bowls, boxes, trays, food containers, lids, folded cartons and other accessories. Huhtamaki products are used by quick service and fast casual restaurants, coffee shops and cafeterias, convenience stores and vending operators. Packaging can be custom printed to enhance a customer’s branding or image. Carlos says that Huhtamaki’s ambition is to be the first choice in sustainable packaging solutions. Its offering includes products made from bamboo, sugar cane and fibre-based alternatives to single use plastics. “We aim for sustainability in everything we do. We are committed to achieving carbon neutral production and designing all our products to be recyclable, compostable or reusable by 2030. We are part of a global organisations that plays its part in managing climate change, committed with sustainability targets and initiatives,” explains Carlos. Huhtamaki also converts recycled paper into moulded fibre egg cartons, delivered to the majority of egg producers in New Zealand, and cup carrier trays at its Otahuhu facility where there is also a second logistics centre. “Its a sustainability packaging story that is hard to beat,” says Carlos proudly, “and continues our tradition of making quality fibre-based packaging.” He says that Huhtamaki understands that packaging is about so much more than just what goes round a product. “It’s about building brands, protecting reputation, and opening up new opportunities in new markets. That’s why we’re on hand, manufacturing locally, working as long-term partners with our customers as they develop and grow.”
