The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certification scheme was developed in 1993, primarily in response to the worldwide decline of forests and mounting concern over the conditions in which forest products were produced. The FSC® is an independent, international non-profit organisation and through certification, consumers have confidence that forests and wood products are managed and produced by environmentally and socially acceptable methods. The FSC® certification system is currently one of the most established and recognised in the world, and is one of two environmental certification schemes currently used in New Zealand. It has become increasingly relevant in the New Zealand and global forestry scene. PF Olsen manages a FSC® group certification scheme, which enables smaller scale forest growers to achieve certification at a much-reduced cost in terms of dollars and time. “For the grower, the main benefits of being certified, include access to markets and price premiums for logs, as well as confirmation that they are contributing to the sustainable management of New Zealand’s environment,” says PF Olsen’s Environmental Manager Heather Arnold. to page 56 LANDPREPARATION JordonGrimmer - Ph. 021 767 081 FORESTRYHARVESTING MarkGrimmer - Ph. 021 322 165 107 Aerodrome Road, Gisborne 4071 06 867 8483 Proud to be associated with PF Olsen
