The building is also reflective of FSNI’s brand with the resulting design of the office a landscape-integrated building that connects FSNI with the land as growers and producers. “Employees, as the most important user group, have conveyed a huge sense of pride in the knowledge that they are working within an environment at the leading edge of sustainable design,” says Mark. He says that both projects, which were individually substantial, were run simultaneously with the head office project delivered 3% under budget, four-months early and while navigating COVID-19 lockdowns. “A compressed programme to meet a challenging client schedule meant all contractors embraced an integrated mindset where constant management of project interfaces, staging and risks was key,” he says. “BIM modelling was key during design and construction. Using this technology to assess and plan construction tasks meant elements were built right first time, minimising waste. Complex geometrical structural elements were fabricated off site in a highly controlled environment and lifted into place, enabling time and material efficiencies.” He says the FSNI building enhances The Landing’s reputation as New Zealand’s leading business park. The project has also won an architectural award, an international award for BIM design and a Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors award for team of the year. Mark says that the project demonstrates AIAL’s commitment to delivering high quality, longterm assets of value, and placing the customer at the centre. Mark says customers at Auckland Airport are increasingly interested in applying sustainability into design, and that the FSNI facility aids this process because it is a tangible example of what it’s possible to achieve. Auckland Airport has a programme to improve sustainability in all its existing assets. “When we develop assets we apply a longterm lens. Sustainability it a very important aspect of Auckland Airport’s business and we aim to set the bar as high as we can. “It’s really pleasing to receive awards such as these, with this project demonstrating that by working collaboratively, setting ambitious goals across environmental, social and associated economic/whole-of-life factors, we can achieve fantastic outcomes that benefit both landlord and tenant, as well as sustaining our environment.”
