80 | Powers Realty Group Agent coaching programme a focus Sue Russell Powers Realty Group has gone from strength to strength. PROPERTY With a professional background planted in law, property investment and property trading, Sandra Power’s decision eight years ago to establish herself as a real estate agent made good sense for lots of reasons. Having marketed her own properties she innately understood how to achieve the best sale price. “I felt like I had a lot to offer in terms of advice. In saying that, real estate felt more like a calling than a choice. My great grandfather started the first real estate agency in the Bay – Norris & Bell, on the Strand in Tauranga. Property is definitely in my blood,” Sandra says. While most new agents struggle to get listings, Sandra’s biggest problem was that she had so many that she was verging on burn out. Not wanting to drop the ball on anyone, she quickly hired a PA. Shortly after this her then husband Matt joined her, followed closely by their 18 year old son Jack. Four years later they took the somewhat gutsy decision to begin their own firm and Powers Realty was born. When asked why they made this move Sandra explains. “I was becoming increasingly frustrated with both the marketing limitations and the culture of our old company. We were supposed to be market leaders but nothing was cutting edge and the culture was more toxic than supportive. Jack had just joined us and I didn’t want to see his youthful enthusiasm and openness be squashed in any way.” Under their own brand demand for their services grew even more. “When we started Powers, people we didn’t even know would contact us to say they could tell from our marketing that we were different and they wanted to work with us. Incredibly we got even busier and it became a priority to get some more agents on board to assist with the workload.” Taking time to enunciate her core values has given further meaning to the culture and direction of Powers. Sandra says they managed to whittle it down to just three: • Live from the heart (the power of connection) • Be yourself (the power of authenticity) • Set out to become better everyday (the power of purpose) Proof that this philosophy and the way it is expressed in a practical day to day sense works can be seen in being listed in the 2019 Deloitte Fast 50; a prestigious collection of businesses experiencing massive growth GET SET SELL If you are selling your own home, developing show homes or apartments, House Couture is your answer as first impressions only happen once. In the case of Powers Realty, they have seen a 369% increase in trade over the past three years. Growing the team of agents has not just been a matter of answering the door when an agent comes knocking. “We carefully select each and every agent who works for Powers. The perfect Powers agent lives from the heart, is authentic and is constantly striving to improve. We have an incredible team and they always end up performing so well too.” Opening of ‘The Nest’, in an iconic Art Deco building right in Downtown Mt Maunganui, has been a big project for Sandra. “I have never been a fan of offices so we operated from our garage for a really long time. The crazy thing is I love coming into ‘the office’ now, I think because it feels like a home. We call it ‘the Nest’ because of the well-known dove nest situated on the front of the property. “I love that nests symbolise everything that Powers is about – family, warmth, security, support, prosperity, growth, trust, love and connection.” Asked what lies around the corner on this journey Sandra says she’s especially excited to be offering a million-dollar agent coaching programme called ‘Powers Academy’ this year. “Lead agents in most firms closely guard their secrets. I believe in the opposite, so we share everything that works with our team. “That way our agents can become better faster. It’s exciting to be making a positive impact in an industry which historically has not been viewed so positively. “I’ve been dreaming of Powers Academy for a long time. It’s going to unleash our agents inner superpowers so they can reach their highest potential and live the life of their dreams. I’ve never been more inspired.”
